Exceptional Edo p. Japanese Screen, Demon War An exceedingly rare set of four dramatic paintings divided into segments depicting a variety of battle scenes and supernatural phenomena, each heavy pigment on paper canvas mounted on one of four panels of a gold screen bordered in mulberry. The scenes appear to comprise a fragment of the tale of Daikozan (Oeyama), a Kyoto tale where in a powerful demon was lured to drink, then cut to pieces in his stupor...

This is a newer Hakata doll. Hakata doll was originated by a roof tile maker in the early 17C during the construction of Fukuoka castle. Hakata is located on the Kyushu island (southern island in Japan), famous to other porcelain makers such as Satsuma, Imari, Nabeshima and Hirado.

She looks quite different from the 50’s Hakata export dolls, looking more like a dancer with an umbrella than a Geisha. She is 15 ¼” tall and her "Kanzashi" hair accessories and the umbrella are removal...

What is unusual about this Uchikake is that the fabric has a plastic coating. This is the only one that I have seen with this type of finish. This gown will survive nicely in the high traffic area or you can even hang it by the fireplace in your home. The color is orange. There are some areas that the plastic is missing (last picture). This is something that I did not see until I started to view these pictures (shown in last picture). Other than that, the condition is like new...

Japanese Edo period woodblock print by Kuniyoshi (1797-1861) depicting Minamoto no Yoshitsune in full armor and surcoat seated on a tiger-skin with his hand on an armrest from the series “Stories of One Hundred Heroes of High Renown” (Meiko hyaku yu den) published by Izumi-ya Ichibei (Senichi) circa 1844. A quintessential Taisho style painting of a boy in a mystical forest of flowers, pigment on silk by Hoson Reisui (b. 1897). The ethereal image seems not so much to be drawn on the silk, but to eminate from it. The boy too seems as if a sprite living in some fantastical reality. There is a minor water streak opposing on the bottom outside of both panels (near the signature) and some loss to the white gofun petals. Each panel is 34 x 59 inches (86.5 x 149.5 cm) and is in overall fine condition...

An old jadeite bracelet of Qing Dynasty was unusually discovered from excavation.
Aside from other jadeite pieces which we usually see that in green or tri-colors, this jadeite bracelet was originally in pure white quality with least tissues observed.
During long time of burial the jadeite's surface was incursioned to a foggy but greasy-feel patina which was a phenomenon only the nephrite jade would yield...

A fine blue and white ming dish,Interregnum Period.Decorated with two phoenixes paired with two lotuses.size:25,5cm diameter. dish has a view short hairlines and verry minor chip at the back side.

 

A very rare Ming hair ornament made of four jade goldfish and a cicada held together by gold wiring made up of a butterfly and floral design. It originally had turquoise colored king fish feathers inlaid in the design.It also has the original metal wiring holding it together. Size: H. 5.5cm. W. 5cm. Jades average 2 cm. Condition: Normal ageing on the metal parts.

A Cizhou tea bowl was in decent oval shape and was well decorated with russet splashes on the outer surface.
At the inner surface, it was in darken brownish nearing black tint when spiral molding scars were obviously observed.

For authentication, there are whitish and stardust-like incursions revealed especially obvious at the inner surface of the bowl...

An extraordinary scene unravels in this raucous tumbling Literati scroll by Kyotos Shirakura Niho (b. 1896) enclosed in the original signed wooden box. An inscription in the box lid names the scene The Hermitage West of Kamo (River) called Taka-Ike-Kyo. A solitary man looks up from his reading toward open ground, his thatched hovel lost in a jumble of bamboo flanking the steep falls rushing white through the foliage...

This is a Chinese Blanc de Chine libation cup, on a stand of molded branches, the exterior carved and molded with flowering prunus branches; 3 " high, 5" wide.

An elegant rendition of the famous Rimpa Crane standing alongside a swirling river of silver created by Shoun for the Shobido Art Studio enclosed in the original wooden box. Extremely well crafted, the creature stands 11 inches (25 cm) tall and is signed Shoun Saku. The black lacquered table is 18 x 13 inches (45 x 33 cm) and is in fine condition.
Shobido has been commissioning works with first rate artists and craftsmen for its own facilities and top Department stores since 1900. Found...

Description: A rare and lovely Yaozhou russet-glazed incense burner was in simple form. Wide-mouthed and with high-set shoulders when the neck is narrowed and the lip is rolled, the jarlet was applied with persimmon glaze inside and out of the surface. The bottom was flat and was concaved to a round circle. The unglazed base had turned to a buff skin during firing, and in a firm quality which were all the characteristics for a Yaozhou ware. A Fine bronze by the modern master of the Japanese bronze tradition, world renowned Hasuda Shugoro, enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The modern form is belted in geometric patterns with a mottled olive and red patination, signed on the base Shu. It is 6 x 7 x 9-1/2 inches (17 x 15.5 x 23.5 cm) and weighs approximately 5.5 kg (12 lbs) in excellent condition.
