A globular bodied vase painted in dark reddish brown on a white slip. The main body has three large sprays of flowers. A large brown band encircles the shoulder and below the floral sprays are several thin bands - some straight and some wavy. Typical of this type. Chinese Qing dynasty Qianlong period bottle vase (tianqiuping) with globular body and tall cylindrical neck covered in a rich translucent sang-de-boeuf (oxblood) glaze with a faint orange peel texture. The glaze is thinner at the neck, revealing white at the mouth rim and a crackled underglaze...

Decorated outside with carved motifs, plantain leaves pattern round the neck. Unglaze base. Size : Height = 10 cm Period : Yuan Dynasty 1279 - 1368 Condition : spout is replaced by metal, frit on the foot rim, no other damages.

Chinese Warring States Bronze Axe Head

This bronze axe head dates approximately to the Warring States period (475 - 221 BC). Inside are remains of its wooden shaft. Length 16 cm (6.25 inches). Unfortunately it has been broken in two and re-stuck.

A very rare wood panel, covered with a white ground and decorated with a painting of a bodhisattva. This panel was found in a cave temple in the Dunhuang mountains in the Gansu Province. We acquired a group of six panels from a Dutch collector who bought the panels in China in the 1980's. Dimensions: 57x24 cm. Tang Dynasty (618-906).Wooden objects from this period are quite rare.

An exquisitely formed sometsuke porcelain by important Seto porcelain artist Kawamoto Rekitei (1894-1975) with raised patterns of grapes forming on the vine. The delicate shades of the steadily browning grape leaves is easily conveyed by the masters touch, each leaf carefully bordered in a raised border, the dark grapes slowly growing plump in the shadows. The vase is 9 inches (23 cm) tall, over 7 inches (18 cm) diameter...

A mandala from the Main Kyoto Nichiren Sect Buddhist Temple Honnoji cut from a hardwood slab used in the rebuilding of the great hall in the Taisho period. Written on back is “Given in Taisho 14 (1925) to the temple supporter’s representative as a prayer for good fortune upon the occasion of the ceremonial raising of the roof beam of the main temple structure (Honden), the plackard cut from wood used in the rebuilding”. A Chinese statue of a maiden holding a lotus flower and a fan, carved from celadon jade, fixed on a matching wooden base. Condition: fine, only lotus flower with few tiny rim frits. Dimension with wood stand: c. 22.3 cm high.

Description: A lovely Jun tea bowl was molded in an elm bowl’s shape. With a slightly inverted rim, the bowl stands by its small circular foot ring which was unglazed. In an attractive purple splash at the cavetto, the bowl was applied on the surface with the blue sky glaze. Cracks and minute bubbles were spread under the glaze. Some deposits were left at the center of the foot ring. Date: Jin Dynasty(11th-12th Century), Width: 9.8cm.

Description: A Ge-typed porcelaneous censer was in tripod cylindrical shape. With beautiful crackle glaze, the censer expressed an elegant literati taste by its simple form. Kiln firing red was developed obviously between the glaze and body clay when numerous bubbles squeezing together all over the surface under the pale-blue tint. It was believed as an excavation piece. The inner side on the wall was left with marks of spreading roots...

A Chinese carved cinnabar saucer dish. A chrysanthemum flower head adorns the center of the dark vermillion colored dish and is surrounded by a leaf lappet border. The carved decoration revealing a cross section of dozens of built up layers of cinnabar lacquer. 19th century or earlier. Good condition. 5 15/16 inches (15.08 cm) diameter. Weighs 5.5 to 5.6 ounces (more than 1/3 of a pound) or about 158 grams - pretty weighty for the small diameter.

Description:A beautiful and rare imperial famille-rose crane-medallion porcelain bowl and saucer, the bowl decorated to the exterior with seven roundels of crane-medallions in purple red enamel, between bands of crosshatched pattern around the rim and blue and green breaking sea waves above foot rim, centre of the bowl finely painted with a single peony flower and leafy branches enclosed within blue-circles. The interior of the saucer was decorated with the same patterns of the roundles...

Description: A beautiful Huanhuali brush pot was carved from one fine wood trunk. By a fine carving skill imitating the tree trunk, the Bitong was prevailing in the atmosphere of a scholar taste. In an adequate size, the scholar item can be put in practical use to hold your modern pen in a unique look. Date: Qing Dynasty(19th century), Height: 10.8cm, Width: 10.1cm.

Description: An old ivory plaque was decorated with archaic scrolling Chilong(DRAGON) pattern in against position on both sides.On the rims, fret pattern was regularly carved. The motifs of this rare piece had long been used in traditional Chinese works of art. It was an abstract art and a decent motif which had always been adopted by the noble echelon.
