Chinese Warring States Bronze Axe Head

This bronze axe head dates approximately to the Warring States period (475 - 221 BC). Inside are remains of its wooden shaft. Length 16 cm (6.25 inches). Unfortunately it has been broken in two and re-stuck.

A very rare wood panel, covered with a white ground and decorated with a painting of a bodhisattva. This panel was found in a cave temple in the Dunhuang mountains in the Gansu Province. We acquired a group of six panels from a Dutch collector who bought the panels in China in the 1980's. Dimensions: 57x24 cm. Tang Dynasty (618-906).Wooden objects from this period are quite rare.

Description: A lovely Jun tea bowl was molded in an elm bowl’s shape. With a slightly inverted rim, the bowl stands by its small circular foot ring which was unglazed. In an attractive purple splash at the cavetto, the bowl was applied on the surface with the blue sky glaze. Cracks and minute bubbles were spread under the glaze. A Chinese carved cinnabar saucer dish. A chrysanthemum flower head adorns the center of the dark vermillion colored dish and is surrounded by a leaf lappet border. The carved decoration revealing a cross section of dozens of built up layers of cinnabar lacquer. 19th century or earlier. Good condition. 5 15/16 inches (15.08 cm) diameter. Weighs 5.5 to 5.6 ounces (more than 1/3 of a pound) or about 158 grams - pretty weighty for the small diameter.
