Chinese late Qing dynasty bombe form porcelain censer with two lion dog mask handles at the sides. The censer is covered on the exterior in an oxblood flambé (sang-de-boeuf) glaze applied over a cream colored glaze which is visible where the glaze thins. The oxblood glaze flows over the interior edge onto a crackled gray interior glaze. The base is unglazed and burnt orange. The characteristically rough foot rim is unglazed. A very unusual Katana held in a saya (scabbard) made to look like a gnarled branch cut into a poor man’s cane. When pulled a spring-loaded mechanism releases two iron flanges creating a very effective tsuba hand guard. The blade is unsigned, measuring Nishaku nissun nibu {26-1/2 inches (67.3 cm)}. The remnants of a piece of paper remain glued to the saya with the name Masaaki Noma (?) written in cursive Roman letters, followed by UZUMASA, an area in Kyoto city...

Rare Japanese woodblock print kakemono (vertical diptych) by Toyohara Kunichika (1835-1900) depicting Onoe Kikugoro V as Nikki Danjo, the archvillain of kabuki roles, transforming himself magically into a rat. The kabuki play “Meibuku Sendai Hagi” (“The Disputed Succession”), deals with an assassination attempt on Tsuruchiyo, a child who had inherited the position as head of a Semdai clan. Large rectangular Persian mirror case made of papier-mache and hand-painted in ink, watercolor and gold under lacquered varnish. The outer covers decorated with youth at leisure in the Safavid style. Chinese Qing dynasty natural root form scholar’s bitong, or brushpot. 7 1/2” high. The base measures about 6” diameter at the longest part. The rim is about 4 5/8” across at the widest part. Late 19th to early 20th century. Very good overall condition. There is a short crack at the inner rim that extends to the interior of one thin concave area on the exterior. This piece is from the private collection of former American expatriates to Hong Kong in the 1970s and 1980s.

A fine antique Gilt bronze Buddha Thailand 19th century. Fine casting of the Buddha seated in Mara Vijaya (calling the earth to witness) Gilt bronze over lacquer most all original gilding remains in good condition. Description: A terracotta amulet or Tsa-Tsa of Tibet was preserved well in a fine condition. By a mold image of Shakyamuni Buddha who in the earth-witness gesture on the front, gold pigment was applied including the drapery throne when faded red and darken purplish pigment were left to the background. Clear reticulate grains were on the back side. Date: 18th century, Tibet. Height: 8.2cm, Depth: 1.6cm(base).

Description:

A soapstone carving was depicted as a sitting Lohan.
Amusingly, the Lohan was seated with one bare foot and holding with the shoe.
By unique purplish red tint, the soapstone figure was preserved nicely with only minute defects on portions of the bottom's rim.
There were jewels and beads decorated on the robe, now were missing and left only with fastening holes.

Description: A boxwood figure was vividly carved as a shepherd boy by mastery craftsmanship. Holding a pipe (which had been lost), the shepherd boy stands step-forwardly in a animated posture. A nice boxwood carving with nice patina was preserved good with only one small defect on his left foot(loss of two toes) and a minor crack at the rim of his straw hat. A newly made stand was included.
