An exqusite example of enamel work on ginbari style foil background depicting a dragon swirling and coiling around the neck of the vase. Artist signed on the bottom measuring approx. 9.5 inches tall. In excellent condition but for some discoloration or tarnish on the silver foil under the enamel and some fine stress lines (see picture) overall a masterpiece of this Japanese art form.

Fierce looking old Samurai ningyo (Japanese doll) in rare museum quality. His head is carved wood and the face resembles kabuki actors or Jyoruri ningyo (18th to 19th century puppet theater dolls) from the Edo period (1603-1868). It is definitely a work of art.

"Afternoon Birches" autumnal landscape painting by Emile Albert Gruppe (American, 1896-1978), oil on canvas, circa. 1950s. This colorful and warm northern Vermont scene was probably painted near Jeffersonville, VT. It is titled and signed at the top of the stretcher and also signed in the lower right, Emile A. Gruppe. Here is a colorful butterfly realized in plique a jour enamel, silver, and paste stones. Measuring 1-5/8” x 7/8”, and weighing in at 5.6 g, it is just lovely! The butterfly wings are in hues of blue, green, and pink, and it has 2 red stones for eyes. It is set with 20 colorless paste stones, 19 of which have darkened over time. The central stone is much brighter, so it may be a replacement. There are some hairline cracks in the plique enamel, as is typical, also some black spots...

Chinese Blue & White Porcelain Covered Box - Kangxi (Ex.Christie's)

This fine quality blue & white porcelain covered box was made during the Kangxi reign (1662 - 1722) of the Qing Dynasty. Both cover and box are attractively decorated with floral patterns in underglaze blue of good colour.

It is large example of its type with a diameter of 10.25 cm (4 inches). This box has been excavated from a shipwreck. It was sold at Christie's auction house, London, in February 2000...
