This rare sterling silver bell was designed & signed by Taxco, Mexico designer William Spratling in the 1940's. Weighing 108 grams, the bell stands 5 inches tall. The base measures 2" across. Spratling designs are the central focus of the 20th century Mexican silver collection at LACMA & Museum of Fine Art Boston.

A wonderful ethnographic folk art object, this style of farm animal bell has been used in Thailand for centuries. Hand carved from wood by the herder and tied around the animals neck this traditional bell is hinged (or pegged) in 2 places to allow for a gentle knocking sound. This one was used for a goat and has remnants of the original hand made rope.

Chinese Tang Dynasty Painted Pottery Zodiac Figure (Tiger)

This pottery "zodiac figure" was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). It is in the form of a robed official figure, hands held together across the chest, with the head of a tiger. It is made from a reddish-brown pottery that has been cold-painted in a creamy-white pigment with pink pigment on top around the head.

Description: The ovoid jar stood on a solid, flat, circular bottom. The walls rose steeply from the base to the bulging shoulder, then rise upward to the straight neck. Four looped handles were evenly spaced around the shoulder and closely to the neck. A straw colored glaze was applied all over the surface only stop to the straight foot ring. Enduring old patina was yielded when bone tissues were obviously observed.
