A nice well made Tibetan prayer beads consisting of 108 bone beads and three pink mountain coral. Two leather counters with ten silver rings each ending with silver inlaid with coral and turquoise. The character Kotobuki followed by a playful verse crying Watashiya kyujukyu made (Longevity, I live to 99). Ink on paper enclosed in a subtle cloth border befitting Zen art. It is stamped Taishitsu (his art name) and enclosed in the original signed wooden box with the same inscription on the lid. The scroll measures 10 by 73 inches (26.5 x 185 cm). A nicely carved natural amber pendant of the hand of Buddha citron with a hole at the top so it can be worn as a pendant. The citron fruit may be given as a religious offering in Buddhist temples. According to tradition, Buddha prefers the "fingers" of the fruit to be in a position where they resemble a closed rather than open hand, as closed hands symbolize to Buddha the act of prayer. This antique shield is an artifact from the Dutch War with the Atjeh (now Aceh). In short, the Dutch colonial government considered Indonesia "theirs". The indigenous people, the Atjeh, on the Northern part of Sumatra, disagreed. The war began in 1883 and extended into 1904 when "peace" was declared.

This large war shield, made and carried by an Atjeh warrior, has a double layer of woven Rattan with circles of 6 pointed metal stars and brass pins...

A matching pair of Shaker #3 rockers from the Mount Lebanon, NY community. 19th century. Each chair bears a '3' branded on the upper back slat, and one chair displays a Mt. Lebanon manufacturer's stamp on the third back slat. Excellent condition, retaining an old pecan colored finish and with woven beige and blue cloth tape seats. There is a minor split to one leg where it joins with the runner (but still structurally sound). Dimensions: 34" ht. x 19 3/8" width x 25" depth.
