A vintage Raggedy Ann doll, height approximately 21", with everything you want in a Raggedy Ann---the mop of red wool yarn for hair, gingham or calico cloth, etc. I am hardly knowledgeable about dolls or Raggedy Ann's but I would imagine this one dates to before the early 1960's, to as early as the late 1940's. A wonderful plain and simple antique black doll doorstop. This one is smaller than most and is made with a weighted can rather than a bottle. She is 10" tall and is just the right size to sit on a shelf or be used as a bookend. I like it when the stocking shows nice wear on the bottom and this one really does. See photo. This beautiful painted face doll with big almond shaped eyes, large protruding nose and tiny pursed lips with just a touch of pink, is a great example of a folk art naive cloth doll.
Black painted hair is scalloped around her face and touches her cute applied ears. The paint is all original. She has some crazing and loss of paint on her head but it isn't flaking and not very visible from the front. Her forearms and hands are painted the same as her face. One wrist has old cloth tape around it....

Naïve but nicely painted face doll with great red curls around her face. She is 21" tall and her body has a very broad chest that narrows into a smaller waist and hardly any flare to her hips. She is jointed at the shoulders and at the hips. She is very firmly packed with cotton. She has reinforced stitches at her neck below her chin and then stitches at the back of her neck also. She sits nicely and she knows that she is pretty. Circa 1890.
Surprisingly this is and always has been a bottle doll door stop. She is beautifully dressed with layers of clothes. She has flax hair, and ink drawn face with a bit of a startled look. She has on a black hat with great posies across the front. I have had a few white doll doorstops but this is by far the best. She is 15" tall and is circa 1890.
Very early black cloth doll with embroidered face, raised nose, wool fabric for hair, and dressed in original blue calico roller print pants, an early brown wool vest, (so great even though it has some damage), and the collar around his neck that is all that is left from his dress shirt. His arms maybe an early replacement. He is 14" tall and C. 1870.
His face is mottled color but no damage to the fabric, maybe the early dyed fabric reacted to sun over the years.
Boy dolls are just hard to find, fewer were made but when found they are more likely to have good clothes. Boys liked policeman, soldiers, construction workers and sailors. This great sailor is 21" tall, has a nicely embroidered face, is all hand sewn, has the four seam head and has really nice hands with fingers and thumbs. He is very firmly stuffed with cotton. This is a really pretty 1995 Black Happy Holiday Barbie Doll with black hair, mint, unused condition in the original, unopened, box made by Mattel. This very nice hand-carved wooden doll and some original paint on the face and shoulders. She has a very round head, deep-set eyes and a nose carved and protruding but still out of the one piece of wood. Her legs were inset and pegged in place. Now she is a wonderful fragment 10" tall and mounted on a professional frame. (There are a few very old worm holes, please see close-up picture.) Circa 1800-1830.

Now I think he is a little boy but his blue striped pants have a little lace trim so maybe a little girl. This 18.5 inch tall Norah Wellings black doll named "DuDu" was made from 1927 to the mid 1930s in Wellington, Shopshire, England. Made of velveteen DuDU has a great character face with the much desired glass eyes and a wide brown mohair wig. The doll is jointed at the neck, shoulders, and hips. The fingers and toes are individually delineated with stitching. Doll is called 'DuDu' model 119.

Rags are dense and heavy, cotton is lighter and can be pushed more easily into small places like arm and legs and feet and gives more when compressed. This is a wonderful folk art bottle doll with a big straight smiling mouth, button eyes and one celluloid hanging earring. She is wearing a slip and over that a great black print apron that wraps under and around her head and ties in the back.
