This cloth doll is reminiscent of the old days, 1970-80s, when I saw and bought a lot of faceless dolls and they were not all Amish. I think faces were not as important to all children or mothers as we may think they are nowadays. Her sweet little body is shapely, with jointed arms and legs. Her underclothes are sewn on her but she is all original. Her hands are slipcovered and held on with string in mitten form, must have been that the hands got really dirty...

This is a very nice 19th C. black cloth doll with strong embroidered face. She is as found and is wearing an antique plaid dress that is all hand sewn, with a very fine wool petticoat under it and knit bloomers. Her body is stockinette that is over black cotton lining and she is firmly stuffed with cotton. Her arms and legs and knees are jointed. Her condition shows wear on some of the stockinette and her face has little picky holes that have been sort of mended, see picture...

This 1880 cloth doll has a very nicely drawn ink face with strong features softened by time. Her lips have a trace of red with a hint of a smile, her eyes are big and brown and her nose and eyebrows are a gray black this all adds up to a very kindly looking face. The black hat covers a trauma to her head and to her right ear. The rest of her face is not fragile so I think it was a blow to the head and ear not a breakdown of fabric...
This very early little doll is made with wool batten, (sed as filler in homemade quilts). Probably a scrap left over and in the rag bag. Her body, arms and legs are batten, and her head is sewn linen over a ball of wool batten. Her eyes are tiny beads held on with thread and her nose is raised and stitch defined. Her mouth is 3 stitches with a hint of pink color. She is wearing a real homespun linen dress, red, white and light brown plaid, not fancy but hand sewn...
This is a wonderful folk art bottle doll with a big straight smiling mouth, button eyes and one celluloid hanging earring. She is wearing a slip and over that a great black print apron that wraps under and around her head and ties in the back. It certainly is a thrown together look that appears to have been on her a long time. The apron so goes with her face. A one of a kind face for sure. She is on her original weighted glass bottle, is 14" tall and is circa 1920.
Just when I think I have seen it all along comes something different. This doll has a bottle for a body that has the shape of a flask. The bottle and her arms are a heavy twill with the arms having lots of mends. She has sock legs and a sewn on bonnet and embroidered face. She has been through a lot but she is very dear. I have had bottle doll doorstops but never a doll with a bottle body! She is 16" tall and is a real hoot. Circa 1900

She is firmly packed with rags and cotton, how can I tell, she is very heavy and doesn't give much when you squeeze her. Rags are dense and heavy, cotton is lighter and can be pushed more easily into small places like arm and legs and feet and gives more when compressed. She has a great pencil face with eyes way at the top of her face. She is old and played with and her dress reflects all of that, see pictures for shredding material...
There are so many ways that women thought up on how to make a doll and give them the loveable look. This black cloth doll has that as well as a great folky look. She is stuffed with cotton and wool. She is bendable, the wool areas, and firm in the chest and head, the cotton areas. She has a simple face and it is framed by a crocheted bonnet with neck ruffle so I know it was made just for her...
This cloth doll is 8", has continuous arms and legs, is firmly stuffed with cotton, her face has bead eyes and nose and a floss sewn mouth. Under the little plaid dress is a white petticoat. The hair on her head is fur and the shoes are little leather homemade wonders. She is petite and adorable. C. 1890
Condition, she has two little weak spots that the stuffing shows through on her chin.
This plain and simple stocking doll with great old button eyes and probably original stocking cap. He feels like he is stuffed with soft stocking material. He has fancy blue and maroon yarn tied around his ankles that probably matched his clothes. Simplistic pleasure. He is 14 tall and has a few small holes. He is circa 1910-20

So perky and bright with big round eyes and a smile to melt the heart, they don't come like this often. She has embroidered features including her eyes but then to embellish them further they added a bead in the middles and curtain rod rings to make the eyes complete. Baby is a big heavy plump doll, all original body and painted face. She has on a dress that fits perfectly but probably isn't original. Her face is worn a little but no damage, maybe it has darkened with age?
I think she is the best baby. Nice defined fingers and separate thumbs. She has lost a lot of stuffing in her arms, I don't know how, and her legs have black stockings sewn on but everything feels right and original
