This very Victorian grooming chatelaine is from the 1800s. It has a Chinese fish motif at the top, and dangling from that are 3 implements: a tweezers, one for cleaning nails, and an ear-cleaning device. (We saw a similar chatelaine on eBay, and the ear-cleaning implement was advertised as a device for opium users, but we don’t think so! However, as non-opium users, we could be wrong ….) It is unmarked but tests positive for silver, and with a patina consistent with age...

This studio piece features two engraved and oxidated textured designs on the main cuff, with an applied arching, overlapping band. This 1930's vintage Mexican Silver Cuff Bracelet by the early Mexican department store Sanborn's features a hand chased and silver repousse floral design. It measures 5 1/4" long with an opening of 1 1/4" by 1 1/3" wide and weighs 33.1 grams. Hallmarked with the Owl figure, Sanborns, Mexico Sterling - the Owl mark was used starting in 1931. The bracelet is in good condition with only light age related wear and tarnish. A lovely bracelet with great style.

This chain is nicely hand-constructed with applied cast curled pieces that are reminiscent of the applied and hand-worked French chains of the turn of the 20th century. This is a small pin, but its design reflects both charm and sophistication, with overlapping strands of sterling silver terminating in a smooth, fused surface. This very flexible Diamonbar bracelet was pat. March 20,1917. It was made by the Wachenheimer Brothers, Inc., manufacturers of costume jewelry. A 19thC Scottish banded onyx sterling silver pin brooch 1850-80. A pair of vintage sterling silver heart shaped earrings by Peggy Ackerly, (1921-2011), who apprenticed with Sam Kramer from 1943-64. Ackerly helped design and execute many of Kramer's most iconic pieces. These earrings are post 1968, when she began using the conjoined MA mark for Margaret Ackerly.

So-called "chain mail" jewelry is not uncommon in the world of vintage Mexican silver. One can find them in all forms, with or without stones, and in all widths, signed by known maestros and by less-celebrated makers as well. There is something very slick about this design, its interwoven "mesh" inhabiting quite comfortably both the Art Deco and early modernist worlds. The necklace at hand is an example of the narrower versions but very well made and with good weight to it. It came to me with it...

A modernist sterling silver ring by Oscar Aaroe, (1905-1996), a jeweler and silversmith born in Denmark who apprenticed with Georg Jensen and had his store on Palm Springs, California. This ring feels Southwestern in design and was probably influenced by the Native American silversmiths in the area.

This is a marvelous example of a period antique bangle bracelet crafted in sterling silver with channel set square paste gems. Detailed and fine engraving is scrolled along the silver work of the entire band. The clasp is a tongue and groove closure.
