An outstanding antique Mother of Pearl icon, 18th century Palestine. The icon has a warm golden tone and is finely hand-carved in high relief. It depicts a marriage ceremony between the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph, with a richly attired high priest clasping the hands of Mary and Joseph. Joseph is depicted as placing the ring of betrothal on the finger of Our Lady. The icon comes with an elaborately hand-carved gilt wood Baroque style frame...

This appears to be an image in gouache on top of some kind of waxy scratchboard, measuring 10" by 14" (17" by 20 3/4" as framed), signed at lower left "DE GUST" and dated there "59". I can't find a listing for the artist but he or she painted in a classic style pioneered by the likes of Jean Le Mayeur and others in the history of modern Indonesian art. The painting is in excellent condition, and is ready for the wall in its simple black frame and clean mat.

Artist C.R. McIntyre brings to life a charming realistic portrait done and thinking Creon of the older gentleman with a hat and cane measuring 9 x 7“ and framed in a 16 x 14“ frame
Something of a mystery piece, this unsigned mixed media drawing in gouache, watercolor, pencil and ink rather resembles the stage design work of the noted artist Eugene Berman (1899-1972). Measuring 14" by 19 1/2", unframed, the drawing is on paper laid down on another sheet of paper. It has traveled without framing so has become dog eared and acquired a number of other flaws including a heavy crease at upper left and other issues within the imagery...

For the collector of contemporary art, this is an unusual mixed media work signed at lower right by MARGARET HEHMAN (known since 1985 as Margaret Hehman-Smith). Old watercolor drawing (perhaps charcoal in places as well) with slight use of white gouache, unsigned, the subject a younger man of the sixteenth century or thereabouts. The drawing (15 1/2" by 12") is on grayish heavy paper (the true color is indicated by the first two images---the subsequent ones were taken in different light, suggesting a more tan color). The age of the drawing itself is especially difficult to determine in this instance...
This carved agate contemporary snuff bottle is 2 ¾” high, 1 ¾” wide and 1 ¼” thick. The lighter part was carved as “Buddha hand citron” shape and used as the body of the bottle. The darker color agate was carved into a small bug which is resting on the fruit. It is well hollowed, polished and in great condition.
