This unusual and inventive designed leaf shape snuff bottle is 3 inches tall 2 ½ inches wide and less than 1 inch thick. The color is from beige to burgundy and very well polished and hollowed. It depicts three squirrels chasing each other under grapevine. The workmanship is excellent. The artist Chen Ke uses the natural color of the stone so well, it looks like inlay or overlay work. Contemporary Australian aboriginal art "dot" painting, acrylic on a thin canvas, signed on the reverse by artist POLLY PUNTJUNTA, and stamped with the Original Aboriginal Art Company stamp, of Adelaide, South Australia. Gouache and pencil on paper, 16 3/4" by 12 1/2" (slightly larger as simply framed), signed at lower left by listed American artist JOHN EDWIN JACKSON (1876-1950). The scene is a genteel one, with a proper southern gentleman and belle, in a grand architectural setting. The artist was very prolific, illustrating many books and magazines in the first half of the twentieth century, yet, little seems to be known about him. A watercolor and gouache painting of a creek lined by mature white birch trees, 14 1/2" by 21 1/2" in its thin strip frame, the work signed at lower left "A. ABRAMS". The eastern artist Raphael Senseman of New Jersey painted in much this same style, so much so that one is tempted to think that "A. Abrams" could be a pen name. The watercolor is fresh and in excellent condition.

An interesting marriage of Japanese kirigami or "kirie" art, (paper intricately cut to a lace-like appearance, that finished work, in this example, a crane standing in water, and surrounded by pine trees) and a circa 1885 American Eastlake style gold and black frame.
