A nicely worked watercolor featuring the green farmland and coastal mountains of Ireland, signed at lower right by noted, listed Irish artist SAM MCLARNON (1923-2013). The circa 1970's work, 11 1/4" by 18" (17" by 23" in inexpensive modern framing), is in excellent fresh condition, the colors not faded. One can almost smell the oceanic air. There is some record that McLarnon has had auction records in the past as high as $10,000 but I cannot verify that information...

A powerful watercolor on wafer miniature, where the artist decided to show the sitter staring head-on and almost directly at the viewer. The unusual crisscross tie is used to further enhance the strength and immediacy of the handsome subject.

The simple gilt metal case is 2 3/8" by 2", and is in excellent condition, with a missing cover glass to the aperture on the reverse, which is of no import.

Attributed to Henri-Alphonse Barnoin, French, 1882-1935. "Marché du plage de Concarneau", depicting the seaside market outside the Brittany fishing village of Concarneau. The town is clearly identifiable from the distinctive town ramparts and tower in the background. In the foreground, Breton women in traditional dress gather to buy and sell foodstuffs while a few fisherman in small boats work at the shore.
