This is a very fine painting of a man and his dog fishing. Oil on canvas, 18 x 26 inches, c. 1880, signed in the lower left corner,by Francois Vuagnat. Francois Vuagnat was born in Geneva in 1826. and died in 1910. He was a well known Artist and Photographer. Housed in a 19th century frame with gold liner. A fine scene with the man's trusty companion awaiting dinner.

The painting likely dates to about 1960, judging from the clothing of the people in the image. I do not see a listing by this name but am continuing to research. The image on the right is an enlarged study of the vest worn by the Mother in the Van Dyck portrait. The Portrait of a Woman and Child was painted in 1620-21 by Van Dyck. The unusual design on the vest matches that of Rubens. The embroidery design symbol means family love. Again, I believe this represents a Flemish Honeysuckle which appears in over 17 Flemish Old Master Paintings. A new lab report confirms the gold color is real "GOLD" on canvas!!
