At first glance this appears to be a 17th century Dutch landscape oil on panel by someone like Ruisdael, Hobbema, Cuyp, Van Goyen, or other famous artists of that time and place. Closer examination reveals that this is actually a late 20th century work in that style, signed at lower right by artist J M GRISWOLD. I do not see information on the artist but he or she was clearly familiar with 17th century Dutch art...
This is a large and impressively painted (28 1/4" by 47" just the painting alone) oil on canvas signed at lower left "J. Mathey 21", showing an early autumn landscape with patches of snow and forest depicted in an impressionist manner. The artist, JACQUES MATHEY (1883-1973), was the son of French artist Paul Mathey (1844-1929)...
Oil on canvas painting of a small structure surrounded by a beautiful autumnal forest, 16" by 31 1/2" (21" by 36 1/2" as framed), signed at lower right "C. Jonnevelt" (or Sonnevelt), suggestive of a Scandinavian, Dutch or Belgian artist. The painting, in the tradition of earlier works, was probably executed by a Northern European artist circa 1960 to 1970. Note the skilled handling of the reflections at left...
A lovely impressionist painting, oil or oil gouache mix perhaps, 24" by 36" (34" by 45 1/2" framed), unsigned, the subject a young girl with the background evidently a scene in Mediterranean South of France, the Riviera. The whitewashed, luminous look overall reminds of works by noted artists Andre Gisson, Emilio Grau Sala, Charles Cobelle and the Dufy brothers (Jean and Raoul), as well as other artists of the so-called School of Paris. Condition is excellent. Frame has very slight chipping...

"Place de L'Opera, Cafe de la Paix" oil on canvas 13"X18" unframed Born in France on November 15, 1910 in a small village near the banks of the Loire, Antoine Blanchard was the eldest of three children. His father, a carver, managed a small carpentry and furniture shop. Antoine would watch his father hand carve the furniture and began to display an artistic flair early in life. Eventually his parents sent him to Blois for drawing lessons...
Oil on canvas painting of a traditional German house or cottage in a forested landscape, 20" by 28" on the stretchers, 23" by 31" as framed, signed at lower right by artist "M. Lichtmann" and dated there 1920. The painting is beautifully executed, though there is very little information on the artist. There is stable craquelure, and a slight drip of foreign matter at center left, though the painting can be placed on the wall as-is.
Oil on canvas or board behind glass (not examined out of frame), 15 1/2" by 21 1/2" (25" by 31" as framed), signed at lower left, and inscribed there "Bettys-y-Coed" (not dated). This is a well known and picturesque part of Wales, an area that attracted many artists in the 19th and early 20th century. The artist may possibly be the listed EDWARD or EDWIN Masters. The works of those artists have sold at Christie's South Kensington auctions in London...
Oil on canvas, 20" by 24" (30" by 36" as framed) signed at lower left by well listed and auctioned artist JORDI BONAS (1937-). The scene is a small boat harbor with a traditional church and coastal village in the middle ground. Bonas was born in Barcelona but was in France in his twenties. Exhibitions throughout continental Europe and then the US were held in subsequent years...
Oil on canvas, relined, measuring 17" by 21" (24" by 28" as framed) signed at upper left in red by listed Italian painter CLAUDIO RINALDI (and below which he wrote "Firenze"---where he was active between the 1860's and 1890's). There doesn't seem to be a lot of information available on the artist, but the subject matter and the handling of the faces are consistent with a number of other works by his hand that have appeared on the market in Europe and America...

A lovely good-sized, (30 1/2" by 34 1/2", and 34 1/2" by 38" framed) impressionist painting of a Swiss garden in Rovio near Lugano in the southern part of Switzerland hard on the Italian border, between famous Lakes Como and Maggiore, titled on reverse "Garten in Rovio", and dated there 1928, by well-listed Spanish artist JOSE SANZ Y ARIZMENDI (1885-1929). This is an impressive work by a talented artist. His biography is elusive. He was from Spain but spent a lot of time in Switzerland...
A well-painted work featuring an interior, perhaps a residence, perhaps a restaurant or other public space, a table with fruit in a bowl, a chair, and sofa filling the space. The oil on canvas, 17 1/2" by 21" (20 1/2" by 24" in old frame, likely the original), is signed somewhat indecipherably at lower left and dated there "Berlin 1909". The name appears at first glance to be "B. Geis(xxxx)" or "B. Geism(xxxx)". Surprisingly, given the inherent quality of the painting, I do not see a listed n...

A hand painted vintage copy of perhaps HENRI MATISSE's most famous painting, "The Dessert: Harmony in Red", one of his Fauvist masterpieces dating to 1908. That large work about 71" by 87", hangs in the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. You on the other hand can own this faithful copy, painted very sensitively by a talented unknown hand, most likely in the 1960's or 1970's. The piece, on canvasboard, measures a more wieldy 18" by 24". It is presently housed in an unflattering meta...
