Mid Century Sci Fi oil on canvas of a card player said to be magazine cover from a 1950s sci fi publication. We bought this and another we are listing in the late 1990 in Los Angeles , the seller didn't remember the artist name but said the artist was an early Sci Fi artist . the painting is unsigned in good condition though could use a cleaning. Very well done one of my favorites. Size overall 17" by 21" sight 15" by 12" approximately.

Oil on panel painting of pink desert mountains and flowering dunes in the foreground, 16" by 20" (25" by 29" in wood carved frame), signed in the paint at lower left with a signature that appears as "Bo W(xxxxxxx)". The circa 1960 oil is by an artist who certainly must have been familiar with the palette knife California desert scenes, with rich impasto, of John Hilton (1904-1983). The style and feeling is similar. The painting could benefit from a cleaning, after fifty years...

Brooks Pettus (1918-2003) was a noted western American artist who passed away in Kennewick, Washington, leaving behind a large body of work in watercolor and oil that only recently appeared on the market. Pettus earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of New Mexico, and spent time in Albuquerque and Taos in the early 1940's. New Mexico's artistically inspiring landscape stimulated Pettus' aesthetic sense as it has for countless others...

**One of two works by the artist in my shop** Oil on canvas, measuring 16" by 20" (22 1/2" by 26 1/2" as nicely framed), titled "Pond Farm" (and original $400 price) on the original Dalzell Hatfield label affixed to the backing. I do not see an actual signature on the painting itself but have not removed the backing board to search the reverse side. The painting is in excellent original condition...

Carre was born in Paris and was an early set painter for the Paris Opera, Comedie Francaise, and Covent Garden. A wonderful oil painting on canvasboard in naive/primitive style, 12" by 16" and featuring happy children sledding down a hill in Central Park in New York City one cold winter afternoon near dusk. The work is titled at lower right "Central Park" and is signed at lower left by artist MARY RUBY ORKIN (1894-1987). On the reverse is written "Copyrighted 1958 by Mark Orkin/Central Park West NYC 10023/#7 Sledding Hill at Sunset behind the Met"...

Mixed media on panel painting of two horses tethered to a small tree in a desert landscape, unsigned, 10 1/4" by 13 3/4" (18 1/2" by 21 3/4" in black complementary frame). The painting, according to its previous owner, came from a large group of mostly signed works (in Oro Grande, CA where both artists painted) of the noted, well listed California and western artist JIMMY SWINNERTON (1875-1974)...

An oil on canvas painting, unsigned, the subject the Arizona desert (we know that because of the saguaro cacti that are not found elsewhere), 22" by 30" (29 1/2" by 38" framed). The painting is deliberately painted in a very pale fuzzy blonde light, with pastel tones, making it somewhat difficult to photograph due to the lack of strong contrasts. The materials suggest a circa 1950's or late 1940's date of execution.

A vintage oil on canvas painting of a river canyon of the west or Southwest, circa 1950's, good-sized at 24" by 32" (32" by 40" in the likely original old charming frame), signed at lower right by artist Charles Crowder. I do not see a "listed" artist name that would correspond. The work much resembles that of California impressionist landscape artist James Merriam (1880-1951). Condition is excellent.

Oil on canvas, 18" by 24" and 1 1/2" wide white and gold painted frame, signed at lower left "EH Deffner '51" and inscribed on reverse "Sweetheart Lake/E.H. Deffner 10-'51/$150.00". This is a beautifully executed work by a talented artist, on whom I have not located a listing. From the subject matter I would suspect this work to be from the Pacific Northwest, like Oregon, Washington, or Northern California. There is a decidedly modernistic handling to the leaves on the tree at right. The ref...

A well-painted oil on canvas (laid on board), 19 1/4" by 25 1/4" in later silvery-gold frame, signed at lower left "Lillian Reynolds" and dated there 1953. The scene is the timeless, shifting sands of the California desert, likely in the Palm Springs region. There does not appear to be information on an artist by this name, but that does not mean that she was not talented. There are a few light surface scratches and light soiling naturally accumulated over sixty plus years. The scene and cro...

PAIR of attractive impressionist paintings of a late autumn landscape with flaming trees, and a stream in a birch forest in spring, both oil on canvasboard, each signed lower right by artist M. F. BILAN and dated 1954. The artist does not appear to be listed but was talented. The strong contrast of the seasons portrayed makes the pair very complementary. The name suggests Russian or Jewish heritage. Frames are original and one has some staining at left as shown. Measurements are 16" by 12" ...
