Large original oil painting on masonite panel by Robert (Bob) Matthew Freimark (American, 1922-2010) in its original artist constructed solid walnut frame. This painting is in beautiful condition. It measures 36" by 48" (slightly more in its frame), is signed with the artist's distinctive early signature l.r. and is titled "View of Sea". Robert Freimark is an important American artist and educator...
A late 19th century small oil on artist board, unsigned, the subject a quiet glen with small waterfall and pond or creek in a forest. The work measures 14 1/2" by 9 1/2" in likely the original gold frame (now with a missing area at top right corner). A cleaning would work wonders. Old Kansas City framer's label and art board shows a Chicago origin.
A work on canvas, 16" by 20", unframed/unsigned, featuring spatter drips in blue, red, yellow and a touch of green, on a white ground, in the style of famed modern American painter Sam Francis. I think the paint is likely acrylic. The work is a rather more affordable version, compared to the six or seven figure paintings by the master. A pleasing addition to your Mid Century interior, in excellent condition.
Large mixed media abstract painting (28 3/4" by 39 1/2", 31 3/4" by 42 1/2" in gold leaf frame) on plywood panel, signed at lower right "WAHL", and dated there 2001. The painting is striking and handsome, the color combinations very in tune with today's retro contemporary look. A brief search of the name does not immediately point to a known artist. Medium is perhaps a thinned oil or gouache possibly, with some pencil lines drawn as well...
Oil on canvasboard painting of gulls flying above the waves, the stern of a boat at left, 12" by 16", (17" by 21 1/2" framed), signed in ink on reverse ("Painted by Edith Fite"/XXX Magee 1951"). The scene reminds of how hungry gulls loyally follow the back end of a fishing boat. I have not located information on the artist. The painting could well benefit from a cleaning after about 70 years.
Original mixed media (watercolor, gouache, ink) on paper by Judith Shahn (USA, born in Paris, worked in New York and Cape Cod, 1929-2009). Signed lower right. Frame is by Robert Kulicke. Judith Shahn was Ben Shahn's daughter. She studied with her father and Moses Soyer. Her work appeared in the New Yorker Magazine, Harpers, The Nation, etc.
This is a mid 19th century painting of a young girl in a beautiful landscape setting. It is painted on academy board which measures 10 1/2" x 12 1/2" and is mounted in a beautiful carved frame which appears to be original to the painting. The frame measures 18" x 16". This could be a early American folk art portrait depicting a memorial to the young lady. She is holding in her hand some grapes on a vine and this is a symbol of Christian redemption...
Oil on canvas painting of flowers in a vase, "Gladiolas", 21" by 18", signed at lower right "Shimo" and dated there 59. The artist is OSAMU SHIMODA (1924-2000). This work came out of an eclectic collection of mostly mid 20th century Hawaiian art, much of it apparently purchased in Hawaii at that time; this one retains an old label on stretcher from Sima's Art Gallery, Ala Moana Center, Honolulu 14, Hawaii...

A circa 1920 painting of a waterfall emerging from a steep cliff above a gorge, signed at lower right by artist S. P. Christesen. I do not see a listing for an artist by this name, or Christensen, but clearly he/she was talented. The scene would appear to be western American, though I recently viewed photos of the noted Montmorency Falls in Quebec, Canada, and there is a strong resemblance to this scene...

An impressionist oil on canvas painting of an old late 19th century American church in a western city, as snowcapped mountains loom at right, signed at lower right corner "Crossen '75". Oil on canvas painting, unframed, 8" by 10", titled on reverse "Among the Chino Hills", signed there and at lower right "L. Morrill R.", and dated 1930. The Chino Hills are outer suburban areas east of Los Angeles, now largely residential areas with excellent views. This early view shows a more wild untamed landscape in the blond golden California light. The palette is very light and gives an impression of the bright intense light for which Southern California is so well known. The full writ...
This is a late 19th century American painting by an anonymous artist, from the heart of the Victorian age. It measures 16" by 24" on the original stretchers (21 1/4" by 30" including the frame and probably original red velvet liner). The peaceful scene includes a lake with eight ducks in the foreground, a shore in the foreground, two rowboats at right, a quaintly undersized man and woman in Victorian garb at left, overhanging dark trees, a small waterfall emanating from a mill, and distant low...
