Oil on canvas, 19 1/2" by 25 1/2" (25 1/2" by 31 1/2" as framed)---(possibly an inner frame, the outer one long since separated), apparently unsigned, circa early 20th century, the subject the famous and unique twin Thatcher Island lighthouses (also known as Cape Ann Light Station), about one mile off the coast of Rockport, Massachusetts. The lighthouses were erected in 1861 as a pair, thereby aiding navigation by mariners. Each is 124 feet in height...

Smith painted landscapes and missions but most often executed superbly painted still lifes of flowers. The artist was born in Denmark and was in Laguna Beach in the budding art colony by 1924. A contemporary oil on canvasboard painting, 16" by 20", 19 1/2" by 23 1/2" as framed, the subject an intimate little harbor no doubt in coastal Maine, with a lobsterman's shack and traps stacked on the deck, and his trap-identifying floats hanging on the side of the structure. The talented amateur artist "Paula" signed at lower right and dated the work '98. The work has accumulated a little light soiling and two small abraded areas, as shown.

‏Oil on canvas painting of snowy high mountain framed by a lake and trees, unusually large size for the artist's works at 20" by 36" (24 1/2" by 40 1/2" framed). Although unsigned (and Detreville's output frequently WAS unsigned), the handling, subject matter and color palette almost certainly suggest the hand of the noted California painter. I have owned and sold other unsigned paintings as being by Detreville, and I will stand by this one being by him as well...

The painting might be signed by the artist at lower right; difficult to see among the browned varnish...

A large oil on canvas by Henry Charles Lee (American, 1864-1930) titled on the stretcher, “Winter Landscape” and signed lower left “Henry C. Lee.” He lived in Cornwall New York and in France, where he died. The stretcher had an old label for a French artist supplies dealer Lucien LeFevre-Foinet with the number 7350.

Under a partly cloudy but blue sky the sun casts the shadows of bare trees on the slope in the foreground while the hills and cloudy sky show beyond...

Oil on canvas laid on board painting of a tree in late autumn, the leaves still in their golden glory, haystacks filling the meadow. This work measures 8" by 10" and is unsigned and not framed. On the reverse is written in pencil "Oct 7 - 1939". More than likely this is by a listed artist but his or her identity will remain a mystery. Put a frame around it and this will shine.

Watt was trained at the Jepson Art Institute and also at the Art Center School of Design in Los Angeles. Instructors included Rico LeBrun, Lorser Feitelson, and Francis DeErdely. This is a work, possibly circa 1970's or 1980's, by a long-lived gentleman with an extraordinary life history, who happens also to have been a very talented artist.
