One could call this work a homage to Jackson Pollock and Sam Francis: colorful drips in red, blue, yellow and gray, on an inky black background, 20 1/4" by 24 1/2" as simply framed in silvery metal behind Plexiglas. There is no signature. A fine choice if you are looking for original abstract art for your mid century or modern interior.

E. Miller" and dated there '32. The actual first part of the signature is difficult to read, but on the stretcher in pencil is written "E. E. Miller"...

Circa 1970 oil on canvas, 16" by 12" (20 1/2" by 16 1/4" framed), signed at lower left "Joyce". The scene with yellow roses and oriental ceramic figure takes after artists such as Hovsep Pushman and others who in the first half of the 20th century favored such props in their still life works. This is evenly soiled, with some browned varnish too. Otherwise condition is good. The white frame shows some wear.

An old oil on canvas laid on board painting of the northern San Francisco waterfront around Fort Mason, along with a panoramic view to Angel Island and Marin County beyond, unframed, 11" by 14", signed at lower right "Whited". There is only one listed artist with the last name, an (Elva) Viola Whited of Texas, which internet search reveals likely birth/death dates of 1902-1983. This could be our artist or could be someone totally unrelated...

A google search shows an interesting tidbit concerning a woman by that name in Kern County, California, estranged from her apparently wealthy husband and attempting to sue him in the year 1937...

Commissioned oil portrait painting on stretched canvas of a little girl in pigtails and as the patron described, '...you captured her eyes as lipid pools...'. Oil on canvasboard painting of flowers, vase and pot, 9 3/4" by 13 1/2" (14" by 18" framed), signed at lower right "L. E. Thackery". No listed artist comes up with a search for this name, but that does not diminish the quality of the work itself, which probably dates to about the 1940's. There are two missing small areas of paint at left, otherwise condition is excellent. The frame post-dates the art and is pleasant and complementary.
