Oil on Upson board painting of zinnias in a table top vase, curtains vaguely defining the background, 20" by 16" and 2 1/4" wide old frame, signed at lower right "C. G. Force" (I believe CLARA GUNNISON FORCE 1852-1939). Force was born in Erie, Pennsylvania of Swedish heritage. She studied with Charles Webster Hawthorne, William Merritt Chase and Frank DuMond. Force did paint in Europe, Cape Cod, Provincetown, Woodstock, New York...

A painting on canvas, 10" by 14" (11" by 15" in simple modern frame), featuring a New England homestead, likely Connecticut, complete with split rail fence and stone wall, signed at lower right and dated there 1892 by Wisconsin-born artist GEORGE SELDEN ROORBACH (1860-1930). The artist was in the Northeast in the 1890's, living with his young bride in the vicinity of Mystic, Connecticut, and also instructing in art in New York City. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design in 1891...

Oil on canvas landscape painting of a New Jersey landscape signed by T. W. Vail. In very good condition, it measures in frame 17.25 inches x 13.25", site size 15.5" x 11.75". Circa 1900

Antique circa 1890's oil on canvas painting of a thatch roof dwelling in a forest scene, 24"by 16", (30" by 22 1/2" in mid century frame), unsigned. This work was acquired at the same time and place as two others that are likely by the same American unknown artist---none signed. The brushwork is clearly by a talented and likely "listed" hand, but the lack of a signature frustrates efforts to identify that hand. Condition is excellent; frame though has crumbling of the left edge, due to age...

ONE OF TWO BY THE SAME ARTIST IN MY SHOP, IDENTICAL SIZE AND FRAMING, oil on board, 18" by 14" (22" by 18" framed), signed at upper right "LEE WILLKE". This work shows a Plains Indian with full roach and faintly mischievous smile. The complex surface is heavily worked. Both of these whimsical works likely date to about the 1950's, and were found at the same location in Maine. I have not been able to locate an artist of this name. I would prefer to sell them as a pair...

Oil on canvas, 18" by 25" (19 1/2" by 26 1/2" as framed) signed lower left "F. Glyndon". This is a nicely painted landscape of the edge of the forest, with pink blossoms on one of the trees, by FRANK GLYNDON (1847-1937). Glyndon was born in Prague, Bohemia and arrived in New York by ship from Liverpool in 1892. Shortly after 1900, Glyndon lived in Alameda, California. He was known for genre, landscapes, and portrait paintings...

Here is a decorative Americana item, if you enjoy the work of one of America's most beloved and famous painters, EDWARD HOPPER, but you can't afford to buy the real thing (priced well into the millions), and yet you want something more than an offset print in a plastic frame. A Hopper painting similar to this is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and it measures 29 1/2" by 43 1/2"...

Oil or acrylic on canvas painting, measuring 30" square, unframed/unsigned, the subject a young woman, painted in the style of famous twentieth century artist Patrick Nagel (1945-1984). This is offered as a decorative "style of" work. The only information on the frame is the word "Mexico" (as in, origin of the frame I would imagine) and the number 30, the dimension. The painting is wrapped around the stretcher so that the edges are all therefore painted...

Oil on canvas classic landscape with feathery trees, rolling clouds and distant view, 28" by 38" (34" by 44" as framed), signed at lower left by English-American artist A. SPENCER (Andrew Spencer, born 1896), and titled on stretcher "A Berkshire Landscape". The artist has frequently been misidentified (often said to be one "Augustus Spencer" on AskArt and in auction records)...

This is a marriage of a circa 1880 gold American Victorian frame with distinctive and unusual diamond patterns in the gilt, the frame rabbet 14" by 18", the framed item total 19 1/2" by 23", a mid 20th century still life signed "Olenick" set into it. It makes for an interesting combination but doesn't have to necessarily stay that way. The antique frame itself is very attractive and could potentially house any number of 19th century paintings...

Oil on canvas painting, 18 1/2" by 24 1/2" including the thin red wood frame, circa 1960's or 1970's, signed on the stretcher "John J. Molino". I don't see a listing for the name so offer the painting as a decorative mid century item. It is quite a colorful and dramatic work and will beautifully complement your Eames Era modern decor. I think there's a little bit of Stuart Davis color and imagery in this. Note how the paint is raised in the hard-edge striping. The painting is a little dusty...

Naive, or slightly primitive, almost folk art painting of clapboard 19th century style buildings next to an inlet of the sea, signed at lower right by artist Martha Crosmer. I see a listing for an artist by that name, born 1909, deceased 1995, last known address in Monrovia in Southern California, with earlier roots to Montana, but this painting does not resemble the desert plein air works that artist apparently painted. This scene to me looks more like coastal Maine, the Canadian Maritimes, o...

By the hand of well listed California artist ARNOLD BRAY (1892-1972), a small unframed oil on canvasboard (16" by 12") titled on reverse in pencil "Show Girl", signed and dated at lower right 1948. Bray was born in Odessa, Russia and came to San Francisco with his family at age 10. He studied at the California School of Fine Arts and later taught there. Bray assisted San Francisco artist Lucien Labaudt when the latter artist was commissioned by the WPA in 1936 to create a mural for the Willi...

Oil on Masonite painting, 18" by 7 3/4" (24" by 13 3/4" as framed, with liner), the subject two young girls and their classic olla-type water or grain pots. of the Southwest. This is likely a New Mexico or Arizona scene, executed in tan and brown earth tone colors. The painting is signed in black at lower left "Ch. Bragg"; I believe this to be the work of the well-known California-based American illustrator artist Charles Bragg (1931-2017), though, this is perhaps best offered as "attributed" ...

American (likely California) oil on canvas painting, 5" by 4" (8 3/4" by 7 5/8" in stained oak period frame), signed at upper right corner with initials "M.W." and dated there '87 (or, possibly, '97). Stamped on the stretcher is "Fred Rhoda/Fruitvale, Cal", and written in pencil in an old hand is " Whitney"; we can probably assume therefore that the artist is one M. Whitney. A googling of the stamped name shows Fred Rhoda (1810-1886) was a Civil War veteran who owned some 400 acres in the Oakl...

Oil on canvasboard landscape of Southern California including distant oil derricks, 12" by 16", unframed, not signed on front but on back signed and with artist address at the time in Sunland, CA, a Los Angeles suburb. The forest of oil wells could be in a place like Signal Hill, or Long Beach, near Huntington Beach, or, any number of other points in Southern California or the southern Central Valley west of Bakersfield. This is a work by the talented wife of another talented artist, Roy Brook...

Oil on 8" by 10" canvasboard painting of an autumnal landscape, a fertile apple tree at left ready to yield its riches, golden leaves at right partially obscuring a distant arid mountainside, (12 1/2" by 14 1/2" in deep light oak framing), signed at lower right "MIRIAM K. PARKER" and dated there 1966. My first impression was that this might be a New Mexican scene, and research of the artist name suggests that this hunch might be right. Google shows a Miriam K. Parker 1914-1977 as an Albuquerqu...
