Oil on canvasboard painting titled on backing paper "LAVISH FALL PALETTE/LONGS PEAK", signed at lower right by artist RUTH ERWIN (1904-1994). A painting on board, unsigned, subject one of the 21 California missions, the size 9 1/4" by 12" (12 1/2" by 15 1/2" as framed). The piece has some age but is not extremely old by any means. Gold frame adds to the appeal. For your Southwestern interior.

A circa 1960's to early 1970's oil on board painting in earth tones of dark brown, tan and cream, unsigned, 9" by 22" as framed in black with gold and an orange velvet liner (pure 60's!). The imagery could be purely abstract though to me, a skyline and reflection of that skyline in water is suggested----such as Manhattan from the New Jersey side of the river. A very Mid Century addition to your interior.

Oil on canvas still life painting, 16" by 20" and 22 1/2" by 26" framed, the subject several ceramic objects, including an oriental figure, an elephant, and a lustrous plate. The painting is signed at lower right "Elsie Crosam" or "Crosom", "Creson", or similar. The piece would be an excellent practice work for a budding restorer as there is a major rip in the center, as shown; or you might buff up the frame a bit and use it with another painting. There is light wear on it.

Oil on board painting of a harbor with small boats, 11 3/4" by 14", (15 1/2" by 17 1/2" in stained oak frame), said by a handwritten note on the reverse to be Morro Bay in central California. The note reads "View of Morro Bay/by Mary Harrington on trip of California coast with friends Mr. & Mrs. Dan Castro 1961". The painting might be signed by the artist at lower right; difficult to see among the browned varnish...

Vintage still life of fruit executed in a Cubist style, oil on canvasboard, 16" by 20", (19 1/2" by 23" in black strip frame with liner), signed at upper left with a monogram that looks like "MR". The work is nicely worked by a skilled hand and condition is excellent. Frame shows its age. The piece was framed likely in the 1960's.

A vintage mid century oil on board or oil on canvasboard painting of a dirt track in the Arizona desert, the landscape filled with the classic saguaro cacti, and at right a yellow flowering tree, causing the painting to be titled "Lluvia de Oro Tree" ("Shower of Gold") on the backing paper, where the artist, LOUIS ELMORE SMITH, also dated it April 1961. He signed it on the lower right corner. Painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition...

Oil on board painting of a peaceful lake surrounded by forest and peaks in the distance, 11" by 18" (16 1/4" by 23 1/2" in wood frame), unsigned, circa late 1940's to 1950 or so, but executed in an earlier style that goes back to the early years of the century. These freely executed impressionistic works met the demand for affordable original art in the first half of the 20th century, and many are still around, though they have suffered the ravages of time...

This painting bears on the verso an identification label stating: "Monhegan Series (Sunrise Sunset)/ 1965/ Estate Inventory on File: Boston Art Club." Henry Kallem was known as a painter and a printmaker. Originally from Philadelphia, he studied with his father Morris Kallem, himself a known painter. Henry's brother is the sculptor Herbert Kallem...

This is a very nicely executed decorative impressionistic painting of a pond in spring within a groomed park-like setting, complete with mini-island with pagoda type rock formation, all surrounded by flowering springtime trees. There might even be orange koi fish in the pond. The painting, most likely American in origin, is oil on canvas laid on board. It is signed at lower right but I cannot seem to make it out. Size is 12" by 16", unframed...

Metvier was born in Canada, worked in the New England area, and in 1946, moved to California where he remained until his death. He was known as a California painter. “He was a highly skilled plein air painter, his works are rare” (Edna Hughes: Artists in California.) Dimension; 16" x 19"; framed; 20.5" x 24.5". Excellent condition.
