A circa 1900 painting of two ladies who have apparently come to see the local priest in a courtyard, they pleading their case vigorously. The priest is accompanied by a sleeping cat. The table top with its interesting details is beautifully painted. The work, on canvas (relined), is signed at lower right "A. CALCAGNA"...

Original oil painting on canvas by Delos Palmer (USA, 1890-1960). This painting is signed lower right and appears to be dated 1946. Well framed and in excellent condition. Palmer studied with George Bellows at the Art Students League. He is known for his portraits and his illustration work (pulp fiction covers). He also worked on murals in Connecticut for the WPA Federal Arts Project. 25" by 21" in its frame.

For the collector of scarce early Utah art, an oil on canvas, 22" by 18" on the stretchers (29" by 25" in old, likely original frame), dated 1928 and titled on reverse "Timpanogos Creek", signed lower left by the noted Utah artist BENT FRANKLIN LARSEN (1882-1970). (There is also some old writing on paper adhering to the frame but it is difficult to read). Timpanogos Creek is a scenic area near Provo, Utah. Larsen is a well-known figure in Utah art...

Oil on canvas of a divan in an interior, unframed, 27 1/2" by 31 1/2", signed at lower right by listed Italian 20th century artist FRANCESCO (also known as Franco) PRAYER (1924-). The work is titled on the stretcher in Italian "Il divano a righi". Prayer's paintings are quite modernistic, with favorite subjects still life near open windows, interiors, or modernist landscape. They appear at auction in Italy...

Mid Century Sci Fi oil on canvas of a card dealer wearing a dealers visor and a green cardigan sweater said to be magazine cover from a 1950s sci fi publication. We bought this and another we are listing in the late 1990 in Los Angeles , the seller didn't remember the artist name but said the artist was an early Sci Fi artist . the painting is unsigned in good condition though could use a cleaning. Very well done one of my favorites. Size overall 25" by 19.5" sight 19.5" by 13.5"

A really well executed oil on canvas painting of a hammock of dry land in the Everglades of southern Florida, a summer cumulus cloud at right about to become a thunderhead, 18" by 24" (22" by 28" framed), circa late 1960's or early 1970's, signed at lower right by listed artist EDWARD ARTHUR EVANS (1895-). Evans, it appears (after a focused internet search), was born in 1895 in Muskogee, Oklahoma...

As suggested by the contradictory title "colorful vintage folk art painting....by Brazilian modernist", this is a very unusual, difficult-to-describe, interesting oil on canvas painting of Christ on the cross, the background a complex mix of bright primary color and modernist forms, signed at lower right by artist "Edelweiss". On the stretcher is written apparently in Portuguese, "Cobia alada da guita" or similar, along with the original $1520 USD price...

An unframed circa late 1600's or early 1700's oil on wood panel painting of old ruins in a poetic Italianate landscape that includes a distant bridge over a river, more ruins, and several tiny foreground figures with their animals. The 9 3/4" by 12 5/8" oak panel shows great age; it is ever so slightly bowed. I do not see a signature although there may have been one at one time at lower left, where others have rubbed perhaps with saliva, to try to bring up a signature...

A rare circa 1930 oil by the noted Northern California woman artist GRACE ALLISON GRIFFITH (1885-1955), the subject a tawny field among rugged hills. The unframed oil on canvas board measures 12" by 15 3/4". The artist signed in red at lower right with her distinctive signature. Griffith was born in Sebastopol, California, near Santa Rosa, in idyllic Sonoma County farm and ranch country. Her father, a fruit rancher, was credited with introducing the Gravenstein apple variety to the area...

Oil on canvas laid on board painting of a man and two female companions, relaxing in a sun dappled forest in summer, the gentleman playing a guitar, the women in feminine dress with bonnets and hats. The work, (24" by 30", and mid 20th century frame 4" on a side), has for years defied my efforts to identify the artist, as the signature at lower right is very difficult indeed. It appears to begin with a "B", and I have tried combinations such as "Brettschneider" to no avail...
