LEANDER M. CHURBUCK (1861-1940) fine watercolor painting "Rockport" by noted Massachusetts artist
LEANDER M. CHURBUCK (1861-1940) fine watercolor painting "Rockport" by noted Massachusetts artist Beautiful watercolor by the artist Leander CHURBACK 6x8” This is a very, very fine watercolor of a desirable and popular subject by a listed, well recognized artist who hailed from Falmouth, Massachusetts...
Watercolor and ink on paper laid on illustration board, 17 1/2" by 23", unframed, the subject a rural road with houses, low mountains in the background, signed at lower right by California watercolor artist RITCHIE ALLEN BENSON (1941-1996). This is a nicely executed work and it is in excellent, fresh condition with no foxing nor water staining. Benson was born in the Los Angeles area and died in Washington state, but there is limited biographical information on him...
Hudson River School style watercolor on paper, 13 1/2" by 19" inside the mat, 24" by 30" as framed, signed at lower right "Byron Albee". This is a subtle, delicate, beautifully executed watercolor of trees and a line of stones next to a pond. Because it IS so subtle, it does not photograph impressively; but in person it is appealing. The work has survived the years in excellent condition with only a bit of well balanced overall browning of the paper...
Ca 1940 A vibrant watercolor framed under glass and signed Munir. The frame measures
12" x 16"; the picture, approximately 6-3/4" x 11". Not examined out of frame.
An impressionistic watercolor painting of trees on the bank of a small lake or pond, signed at lower right by artist "M. MASAHIRO". The vintage work is very faintly painted, almost in the manner of artist Yamada Baske. The tree trunks are the most distinct features, while much of the rest of the scene is filmy, gauzy, ephemeral, foggy. An impressive little work (6 1/2" by 13", 11 3/4" by 18" in metal frame). Allow for reflections in some images...

Watercolor on paper painting of a lone figure in a clearing surrounded by summer trees, unframed, 9 1/4" by 14", signed at lower left "S.J YARD. 97. JUNE." This is an eastern-looking work though the subject is almost certainly somewhere in Northern California. Yard was born in Rockford, Illinois where he was able to become introduced to art. Still young, after further art study in New York, he moved to London, coming under the tutelage of Royal Academician Sutton Palmer...
Irish artist M. C. Abigail, active 1920s, this is a illustration study possibly in watercolor gouache of two exotic birds. Signed lower right and framed in a beautiful gilded gold frame.
A work signed at lower right, of the noted Bermudian artist ALFRED BIRDSEY (1912-1996), the full sheet measuring 19 1/2" by 24" (26 1/2" by 31 1/2" framed behind glass). Birdsey was a familiar figure in Bermuda for decades, a prolific artist, the works of whom traveled home with tourists to the island. This would account for the wide distribution of his distinctive work. Today his daughter continues the family tradition, with similar looking paintings being sold to visitors...
A contemporary watercolor painting of a sailboat, signed at lower right by artist "Seargeant". Measurements are 12" by 10" inside the mat and 19 1/2" by 17 1/2" as nicely framed. Very clean overall, just a very little few specks of soiling on the inside of the non-glare glass, at upper corner. The artist had a good understanding of the wet-on-wet technique, as he used it to advantage in the gray, threatening sky and in the water.
Watercolor on paper, 17 1/2" by 23 1/4" inside the mat (22" by 28" in very complementary jet-black and silver framing), signed at lower right in pencil "Swanson" and dated there 2002. This handsome, elegant watercolor is by artist ROY E. SWANSON, obviously a skilled hand, though I cannot seem to actually find a listing for the artist. There is a listing for a RAY Swanson (Cowboy Artists of America), but this is not that artist...
A vintage watercolor painting, circa 1965 perhaps, featuring a northern New Mexico church, perhaps the famous one at Ranchos de Taos, although it also vaguely resembles the iconic sanctuary at Chimayo. Or, perhaps it is intentionally a composite of many of the wonderful old churches of northern New Mexico. This piece measures 20" by 24" inside the mat and 30" by 34" as nicely framed in blanched wood. An internet search has not revealed an artist that might be matched to this work...
A finely detailed 1844 watercolor painting of an extensive German landscape, with fascinating details including numerous tiny figures fishing and admiring the river and its cascades, a mountaintop castle, church, and countless trees. The sheet measures 15" by 19", the drawing inside squared lines 11 1/4" by 16 3/4". In the lower margin is a lot of writing, some of it tiny. At left we see "Rastadt den 2en Oktober 1844"; at right we see "A. F...
Watercolor and gouache on paper of a backwater creek or lake surrounded by feathery trees, 12 1/2" by 19 1/2" plus 3 1/2" of mat and frame, unsigned, most likely American. The work is in very good shape save for some age browning of the paper most visible by comparing to the top inch or so which evidently at one time was hidden under a mat. The artist was obviously skilled in watercolor. A very peaceful scene for your wall.
A 19thC framed watercolour picture of a child 1860-80. This late Victorian period unsigned framed water color on paper is a piece of early memorial folk art and it was possibly made by a family member as a reminder of a deceased child, with typical muted colours and austere pose. This Victorian picture is a lovingly made piece, most likely a memorial painting, with a hand-cut deep red velvet mat, a gilt paper mount from a photo-album page and a black and gilt frame with applied brass Coptic cro...
A small late 20th century watercolor titled on reverse label "Brazeau River", signed lower right with initials "MH". The work measures 5" by 3 1/4" inside the mat and 9" by 7" as framed. The Brazeau River is 130 miles in length and runs in a generally easterly direction from the high Canadian Rockies of Alberta, through the foothills and towards the plains where it merges with the North Saskatchewan River. The river was named after Joseph Brazeau, a Missouri-born fur trader working for the Hu...
