Oil on canvas laid on board painting of the Grand Canyon, 17" by 21" (20" by 24" as framed), apparently unsigned, circa 1940's, possibly earlier, executed in a naive manner that borders on or crosses the line to folk art. I think the technique is intentionally naive and primitive, as opposed to just the less-refined work of an amateur artist. The frame (see close-up) adds to the folk art aspects. This is a fine addition to your Southwest or Southwest folk art collection.

A very colorful and whimsical MCM or "Retro" painting of doll-like figures appearing as a hybrid between clowns and Raggedy Ann dolls, by the noted California-based painter at mid century, PAUL BLAINE HENRIE (1932-1999). This circa 1960's or 1970's oil or acrylic on canvas measures 18" by 24" (23" by 29" framed). Condition is excellent, the original goldish frame a bit dusty and dulled by age. Signed at lower center and appears to be dated there "66"...

At first I had difficulty reading the signature but some net research showed this to be by an artist apparently at least originally hailing from Louisiana, there being a number of pieces, some still life works, having been auctioned in New Orleans. A famous restaurant in that city goes by this name...

Watercolor on paper drawing of a homey mid 19th century interior in America or England, measuring 9 1/8" by 11 5/8" as simply framed, the work signed "Sketch/Walter Richards" at lower right in white. This was probably preliminary art for a more finished drawing or painting by this well known freelance illustrator. The drawing contains a lot of detail for its modest size: five figures are about to eat soup from a cauldron at midday...

Old early 20th century painting of a thin line of trees bordering a waterway, executed in a lovely impressionist palette with excellent handling of light, 17 1/2" by 21" as framed, signed in red at lower right corner "Chatterton". Though found in Ogunquit, Maine, in an art colony area where the well known American artist Clarence Chatterton was known to have painted, the signature does not resemble that of Chatterton, who was a student of Edward Hopper...

Newton" and bearing inscriptions on the reverse showing the locations in Andover, Connecticut (east of Hartford, between there and Willimantic in the northeastern part of the state). An oil on canvas painting of beach dunes with three small row boats, (25 1/2" by 31 1/2", 33" by 39 1/2" framed), signed at lower right by listed contemporary French artist MARC CHAPAUD (1941-). The work is titled on the reverse "Dunes" and is dated there 1968, making it one of the earlier works of the artist. Chapaud's works have sold at auctions in France (in 2017, a work brought nearly $4,000 at auction). The artist's most recent paintings deal with French chateaux of the Loire Valley...
