The work is an impressive mix of techniques----the base image is actually a dot print; but over that, the artist has used acrylic paint, gauze, ink, and heavy gloss varnish to create an original and unique work. Acrylic on canvas contemporary painting of palms, depicted in yellow, pinkish-red and greenish-blue against an electric blue background, 18" by 24", unframed, signed at lower right by the artist, Shannon Casey. This is a nicely decorative, breezy work that will surely add a touch of the tropics to your interior. There are a very few minor spots of soiling or abrasion that hardly detract from the overall effect.

Circa 1940 watercolor landscape painting, 11 1/4" by 15 1/4", 19" by 22 1/2" framed (no glass), signed at lower left by artist Edith Ovaitt. Edith appears to have been a talented amateur artist. An internet search reveals a woman by that name born in 1893 or 1898, living in Flint, Michigan at the time of the 1930 census. That Edith Ovaitt died in 1969. Ovaitt is apparently a fairly common name in that area. The watercolor's blue dominating color is very soothing and the work is clean...

An original gouache on illustration board drawing of a native American dancer performing the "eagle dance" of the Southwest, measuring 8" by 6 1/2" (12 1/2" by 11" in wood frame), signed at lower right by artist H. Kunkle and dated '79. Definitely an original gouache drawing, not a serigraph or reproduction of any kind. See close-up images. I have not been able to locate information on an artist by this name. The work is loose in the frame, needs to be nailed in again...

Oil on canvasboard painting of red tulips in a bright yellow vase on a tabletop, two apricots or peaches at lower left, unsigned, in a gold frame in wall-ready condition. This is likely by the hand of a talented amateur painter, but it all "works", with bright attractive colors and a clean overall appearance. The entire work as framed measures 16 1/2" by 13 1/2". See a number of other floral works in my shop.

Oil on board, 14 1/2" by 20 1/2" as framed, unsigned, the subject an extensive hilly landscape with distant structures. I believe the scene is more than likely American. The painting could use a cleaning as there is discolored varnish, causing the colors to appear more brown and less blue/white in the sky. There is some soiling at top mostly and a small 1/8" or less pressure mark at center in the sky. Overall this painting makes for a pleasant and decorative landscape...

The work, circa 1960's or 1970's, is framed with bamboo style frame. There is a water stain at lower left in the mat area, which is actually composed of a thin wood veneer...

Watercolor on paper of wildflowers in a ceramic vessel, and what appear to be cherries in the foreground, 19 3/4" by 15 1/2" as framed, signed at lower right with a signature that looks like "M. Bals-Werthmann" or similar, and dated there 1944. I don't see a listing for that name or variants I have tried. The artist, working during the darkest days of World War II, must have been wanting to try to bring a little brightness to grim times...

Colorful, interesting watercolor with a modernist, almost Expressionist feeling, unsigned, 16" by 12" (23" by 17" in present frame). There is a label on the backing from the Fenway Art Center in Boston, which was run by two listed artists, Richard and Giragos Der Garabedian, leading me to believe that this could have been work by one of them, even though the style/subject does not fit with their known works...

I do not believe this to be by any of the noted artists who share that last name of "Gay". Nevertheless it is a nicely drawn work, in excellent condition. Allow for reflections...

Modern painting of a hilltop town of Europe, perhaps in Italy or Greece, 30" by 24" (35" by 28 3/4" in silvery frame), signed at lower right indecipherably. The painting of an historic town is executed in a modernistic manner, almost cubist in spots. The painting might date to the 1980's. There's a three inch horizontal tear at lower left that can be repaired. The frame has a little wear.

PAIR of oil on canvas paintings, each 6 3/4" by 6 3/4" as framed, both signed "Verne", the subjects both still lifes of flowers in table top vessels. These are works by one GLADYS MARIE BAXTER DUCKWORTH (1904-1981). Often the works are erroneously misattributed by online sellers as being by a "Verne Lucinda McCann Gillespie", but Edan Hughes in his dictionary of artists in California has set the record straight. Found in New Hampshire, this is an antique unsigned watercolor of a rocky coastline, sailing boats on the horizon. Measuring 13 1/2" by 19 1/2", the work on paper is glued down to an 1893 Salem, Massachusetts legal directory, the edges of which are crumbling. Those edges should probably be trimmed, and the watercolor then framed to preserve it for another century. Though simple and monochromatic, this is a work well worth preserving. One corner is brittle.

Oil or acrylic on canvas, unframed, 10" by 14", unsigned, the work painted in a harmonious and quite modern mix of varying shades of purples and greens, topped with white drips, the result a pleasing work that would look great in a contemporary or mid century setting. You would not necessarily have to frame this before hanging it on the wall. Condition is excellent.
