A Hopper painting similar to this is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and it measures 29 1/2" by 43 1/2"...

Original finely detailed gouache and watercolor on board painting (no glass) of two warring ships, the 38-gun frigate HMS Macedonian of the Royal Navy, and the 44-gun better protected USS United States, as they appeared in the epic battle of October 25, 1812. The Macedonian surrendered to the Americans, making her the second warship to surrender to the US during that war. The painting, signed at lower right by artist Gordon Bracher and dated 1965, might be after a Thomas Birch painting...

The work is apparently unsigned, but, on the original framing paper appears in a modern hand "BY FREDERICK GRANT"; originally there was also an old framer's sticker from Chicago but it has apparently dropped off since I purchased this...

Oil on canvas painting of a tawny autumn landscape,15 3/4 " by 20 3/4" (20 3/4" by 25" framed), not signed on the front, but bearing a tattered label with an apparent name beginning with "Eve..", and dedicated on the reverse of the canvas in 1933. The reverse inscription says "Merry Christmas 1933/to Lulu (XXX--unreadable)/old friend (XXX---unreadable). This might be a California landscape, but it would be difficult to state that with any certainty...

Pastel and charcoal on gray paper, 17 1/2" by 11 1/2" (20" by 14" in wood frame), signed at lower right with conjoined initials "VG", which corresponds to the name of the artist Vinnie Gjere. I was able to figure out the authorship due to there being a companion piece on my site, also a still life and purchased at the same time as this one; that piece is not signed on the front but on the reverse in pencil is "Vinnie Gjere"...

A simple yet satisfying little watercolor depicting central Paris along the river Seine, Notre Dame in the center distance. The work is signed at lower left by French mid century artist Fernand Guignier and dated there 1966. Guignier is listed, with some auction records, but there does not appear to be an extensive biography. Typical works are in watercolor medium and feature Montmartre and scenes around the Seine in the center of the "City of Light"...

Oil on canvas extensive mountain and trees landscape laid on board, 8" by 10" (10 1/2" by 12 1/2" framed), unsigned, circa late 1920's to mid 1930's. I am certain that this is by a listed artist but sadly there's just no hint as to who created this. The scene could be western, or eastern; hard to tell. It was found in Southern California. I would lean towards it being a western scene...

Watercolor on paper of a large ship at the dock, 13 1/2" by 17 1/4" (21" by 26" framed), signed in the image at lower left and also on the mat at lower right "Herbert Manasse", and titled "ENSENADA 'L.'C.I." on the mat at lower left. The artist is HERBERT MANASSE (1891-1965), who according to the AskArt listing was an artistically talented attorney. He was obviously quite familiar with the medium. Note the wet-on-wet technique in the sky...

Oil on canvasboard, 14" by 10" (19 1/4" by 15 1/4" as framed), signed at lower right in red "K. L. Weatherly" and dated there 1940. One of two works by this same artist I acquired at the same time, (the other one also in my shop), this is an impressionistic view of a southern American regional landscape, a swamp or lake with bald cypress and Spanish moss hanging from the trees. Such a scene would normally be encountered in a place like the Louisiana bayous...
