A fabulous lithograph signed and numbered depicting a view of a harbor scene. . Othon Friesz was born in Le Havre, the son of a long line of shipbuilders and sea captains. He went to school in his native city. It was while he was at the Lycée that he met his lifelong friend Raoul Dufy. He and Dufy studied at the Le Havre School of Fine Arts in 1895-96 and then went to Paris together for further study. In Paris, Friesz met Henri Matisse, Albert Marquet, and Georges Rouault...

A small etching of one of the classic old buildings of America's oldest coastal cities, perhaps New Orleans or Charleston South Carolina, titled "Street Cart", numbered 91/150 and signed "Godzala" or similar. The etching measures 3 3/4" by 2 1/2" inside the mat and 10 1/4" by 8 1/4" in the silver metal frame. Condition is excellent. The piece likely dates to the 1990's through present. I do not see an obvious artist that would correspond with the name.

Max Pollak, Austrian/American, 1886-1970, "L'Dia". A very fine original etching in colors by Max Pollak, image size 11 1/2 x 4 3/8 inches, c. 1930, from a small edition of 60 impressions, pencil signed, titled and numbered. Max Pollak was grew up in Vienna, Austria and attended the Vienna Academy of Art where he studied with portrait artist Fernand Schmutzer. Pollack became well known for his portraits and his etchings, and in 1910 won the Prix de Rome...

Smith was born in Lisbon, moved to Paris while young, and became a French citizen in 1911...

A circa 1940 lithograph, signed in the plate, and bearing pencil signature of the printer in margin under the mat, by the noted California Scene artist PHIL PARADISE (1905-1997). This seems to be a scarce work, as I see only two other examples after an online search. Those two were pencil signed by the artist and numbered out of an edition of 100. So we can assume that this was a limited edition...

An original 19th century hand-colored lithograph print, "Tallulah Falls--Georgia", by the noted Currier & Ives firm, unframed, the sheet 10" by 13 3/4". Tallulah Falls is a scenic location in far northeast Georgia's mountains, now a part of Tallulah Gorge State Park. This print retains its rich hand coloring. Most of the condition issues, commonly encountered with old Currier prints, are contained within the margins...

I call this set of images The Zodiac but Maki formally called them Animal Song + the animal name in kanji. The prints here are Animal Song. Red Lantern Gallery in Kyoto distributed them in 1968. In 1968 Haku Maki was commissioned by Red Lantern Gallery to produce the 12 animals of the Zodiac in a series entitled Animal Song. My Research Note 3 described the set briefly. This is an enhanced version. Maki did only 50 copies of each print; that was a normal run for him in that period...

Stanley Anderson 1884-1966 British This is a fine line engraving by British artist Stanley Anderson. The title is: The Reading Room. This image was created and printed in 1931 and appeared in the 1931 edition of Fine Prints of the Year. This pencil signed impression has an image size of 6 1/2X8 1/2 inches. Printed on a medium weight laid type paper.

David Y. Cameron 1865-1945 British This is an original etching by British artist David Y. Cameron. The title is: Ayr, Bremen, Vienna. It was created and printed in 1889. The image is pencil signed in pencil by the artist and the image measures 6 11/16X11 3/4 inches.

A scarce lithograph print, the sheet 10 3/8" by 6 3/4" (13 1/2" by 10 1/2" in inexpensive modern framing) signed in the plate and dated 1893 by the noted French artist PAUL-ALBERT BESNARD (1849-1934). The image is a self-portrait of the Paris-born artist, who initially worked in the academic tradition before changing over around 1880 to an impressionist style. Besnard was commissioned to execute a number of murals at significant venues around Paris...

This is another of Haku Maki’s depictions of the kanji天 for day, heaven, sky. It’s a fairly easy character to make stark and lovely. The next year, 1971, he did another black-and-white dramatic rendering of the same kanji (Poem 71-51, which is below at #1452042 (stock #1077). The print is 12in square and in excellent condition.
