Stephen Parrish, American, 1846-1938, etching, "Sunset, Gloucester Harbor", image size: 4 7/8 x 8 3/4 inches, 1880, cat. Schneider 40, SP number 40, first state of two, pencil signed. A beautiful, rich impression, Parrish makes excellent use of plate tone to imbue the scene with atmosphere. The second state, which has much less ink in the sky and sea, was later published in American Etchings.

THREE pencil signed etchings, all of orientalist subject matter including possible temples, mosques and bazaars, all unframed, by the Dutch artist MARIUS BAUER (1867-1932). Bauer was born in The Hague and died in Amsterdam but in his lifetime strayed far from the confines of the Netherlands, visiting the Middle East, India, Russia, North Africa and the Dutch East Indies. A precocious talent, he received art training at an early age...

This image of a building along a road, with small figures, is an example of the poetic impressionist style of his later period. Raffaelli found the common, the poor, the working class, and the underprivileged people of Paris and its industrial suburbs to be his favorite subjects, leading some to call him the "Millet of Paris"...

An unusual and difficult to photograph trio: two heavy copper etching plates and one tin or zinc lithograph plate, the latter signed clearly Emil Kosa Jr., and one of the copper plates signed with reverse-etched conjoined initials that spell out EK and probably also "Jr". All were acquired by me at the same time, so, I believe it likely that all three are by the hand of the noted California artist EMIL KOSA, JR. (1903-1968)...
