Original 1956 Mourlot-printed lithograph poster after a 1936 charcoal drawing by the famed French 20th century artist HENRI MATISSE (1869-1954), printed for a mid 1950's exhibition at Galerie Berggruen at 70, Rue de L'Universite in Paris. The unframed poster measures 25 3/4" by 17 1/4". It is in good clean condition, the blue color not faded, though I note the presence some commonly encountered handling creases, the sharpest of them to the left of the nude's head and at the upper corners...

Dragons—or at least the kanji for them—featured often in Haku Maki’s work. Work 73-12A –black kanji on white—came out first in 1973 and was followed quickly by a black dragon on red (which follows this one on this site). The work measures 3 3/4" by 3 1/4" inside the plate mark, and the sheet measures 8 1/4" by 6 1/4". This is Guerin #38 in the catalogue raisonne, and probably the 4th (final) state. This is an image of a young African-American boy grinning while leaning against a building, the image mounted on a board signed by the photographer, Arthur S. Little. After googling the name I find that around the late 'teens and early twenties, there was a photographer in Los Angeles and Ventura by that name, though he does not seem to have had a high profile.
