Maki’s Big Reds—an appellation which my late husband Daniel Tretiak gave to Maki’s large, red designs (usually kanji) on black backgrounds—are well-represented by this ox, a subject Maki did many times. An artist’s proof (A.P.), it measures 16in x 21.75in.

Plate signed etching, 13" by 10 1/4" inside the mat, the sheet 16" by 13 3/4", titled "Rue de la Glaciere", 1937, by the famous and important French modern artist MAURICE de VLAMINCK (1876-1958). The original edition is given as 400 or 500 examples; later restrikes might exist. I do not know if this might be one of them. The paper is very thin and delicate and appears ribbed as would laid style paper. I do not see any watermarks...

Peter Moran, American, 1842-1914, "Through the Meadows". This is a beautiful, richly inked original etching by Peter Moran, image size 13 x 19 7/8 inches, published in 1886 by Klackner. It is state IV/IV, cat: Wright-92, pencil signed and titled on the lower margin. This image is listed with the title "Through the Meadow Stream" in the Wright catalog, although there are several alternate titles including the one that appears on this impression.

George Elbert Burr 1859-1939 American This is one of the finest etchings by American artist George Elbert Burr. The title of this work is: High Street, Oxford, circa 1900 when he and his wife spent time touring europe. A wonderful impression of a rainy night in the city. Richly inked, pencil signed and titled in the lower border. The image measures 10X12 inches. Framed.

Joseph Pennell, American, 1857-1926, "Waterloo Bridge and Somerset House". A beautiful architectural cityscape by master printmaker, Joseph Pennell. Measuring 8 x 11 inches, it is pencil signed with publishers label on the backing. Created in 1905 in an edition of probably 75, cat: Wuerth #379. Pennell was an important American etcher, lithographer and illustrator. Good friends with James McNeill Whistler, he and his wife co-authored his biography...

A true lithograph, possibly titled "Litografia VI", 9 1/2" by 12 1/2" inside the mat, 12 1/2" by 15 1/2" including the mat, unframed, by the famous Spanish modern artist who needs little introduction, JOAN MIRO (1893-1983). I do not know when this was produced or if the edition was limited. The mat is permanently glued down over the work, which is also apparently permanently affixed to the foamboard backing. Colors are very bright...

Samuel H Gottscho silver gelatin photograph of Charles Harrington Chadwick, residence in Palm Beach Treanor & Fatio, architect Treanor & Fatio, client 1935 Jan. 23. The image is in very good condition though at an angle there is slight moisture marks from humidity not very noticeable images show area . Original unframed etching on paper, 8 1/8" by 12 3/8" inside the mat (the sheet 10" by 14"), signed in the plate and dated there 42, and pencil signed in the nearby lower right margin by the noted American printmaker LUIGI LUCIONI (1900-1988). **ONE OF SEVERAL PRINTS BY THE ARTIST IN MY SHOP**, this is no doubt a Vermont landscape scene, as Lucioni's prints largely deal with the classic mountain scenery, barns and farms of that rural state...

Etching "Jewish Market Tangier" by the noted Swedish-born American artist BROR JULIUS OLSSON NORDFELDT (1878-1955), measuring 7 1/2" by 8 1/4" inside the mat and 13 1/2" by 15 3/4" in black strip frame. There is an old label on the backing from The Print Rooms, Inc., 540 Sutter Street, San Francisco. Nordfeldt lived an interesting life, moving rather frequently...

Old print of what I believe are camellias, 10 1/2" by 8 1/2" inside the mat with hand-drawn outlines, 15 1/4" by 13" in what is now (but might not have been originally) a convincingly distressed gold frame, with hand coloring delicately applied. At upper right near the mat is "Pl." and a number so this was no doubt a plate from a book on botany. The item was probably framed in the early 1960's...
