I visited the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington DC a little more than a year ago and saw some really creative ceramics with leather incorporated into the composition among related, sculptural works. It did make a spontaneous and lasting impression that led me to recognize and purchase a wonderful and unusual work by the same hand found in an antiques and collectibles market.

Rare subject marine netsuke of a swimming tadpole. Superb stylish carving wonderfully capturing the essence of the creature. Beautiful clean piece, eyes are inlaid with solid gold. Signed MHB on inlaid silver plaque - Michael Henry Birch (1926-2008) was one of the best 20th century netsuke carvers. Length 2.34 inches.

Japanese limited edition woodblock print by French artist Paul Jacoulet (1902-1960) titled "Sunset in Menado, Celebres" (Coucher de Soleil a Menado. Celebres) published December 26, 1938. Executed in a soft palette, the print depicts a nude male in a subservient position to the female standing over him. This print is illustrated on page 55 (plate 53) of “The Prints of Paul Jacoulet” by Richard Miles, 1982. It is described on page 100...

Orrefors Fishgraal (Graal) vase, circa 1954. Large crystal vase with fish swimming in pond with pond weed. Rarer, near spherical form. Signed ORREFORS/Graal No. 1159 H/Edward Hald. Piece measures 5 inches (12.7 cm) tall and is 5 3/8 inches (13.6 cm) in diameter. Highly reflective and gives illusion of many more fish swimming in pond. In mostly satin stitch and cross stitch in silk thread, this piece measures 45½ x 36½ inches (115.6 x 92.7 cm). Saye goshe are an Uzbek V-shaped fringed hanging used to decorate piles of quilts when they are stored during the day. The blazing colors on this textile depict traditional Uzbek motifs with stylized pomegranate flowers. Still living in yurts, the Lakai Uzbek have perfected the interior decoration of their homes...

A Chinese figure of a monkey on a rock bed. Modeled resting on one raised knee and holding a peach in his right paw. The fur delicately delineated with pale iron-red fur markings.

Approximate size is 4-1/4" wide by 8" high by 3-1/4" depth.

Condition is very good, no breaks or cracks. Some wear to the enamels

Offered is this beautiful and rare French Sabino glass 'Waterfall' lamp from the 'Art Deco' period (C: 1925). The lamp is 17 1/2 inches (45 cm) tall. The shade is 6 1/4 inches (16 cm) in height and 5 3/4 inches (15 cm) wide at the bottom. Overall, the lamp is in good condition. The metal and the lower glass portion are in fine condition...

Offered is this beautiful Steuben Jade glass with alabaster 'M' handles that was converted to a lamp. Overall, the lamp is about 27 inches tall. The glass vase itself is over 10 inches in height and 7 1/2 inches wide (handle-to-handle) and 7 inches wide at the widest part (without handle). The glass is in excellent condition - no chips, cracks or repairs (the polished pontil of the vase has a clean drilled hole). There is a fabrication flaw (see 5th picture), that is typical of a hand-made item...
