Antique Korean Coin Chest, Donkwe. 20h x 32w x 15d, 51h x 81w x 38d m. Coin chests are highly prized by collectors of Korean antiques. Paper money did not exist in Joseon Dynasty Korea, and the coins were of very small denominations. They had to be strung together in large, heavy quantities to have any worth, so a strong money box was a necessity. Mattie Ingold, an American missionary physician who worked in Jeonju, wrote: "If Korean money were proportionately as great in value as it is in weigh...

This is a nice and rare Korean Choson dynasty, 15th or 16th century white glazed vase. It has a nicely potted pear shape and is covered in a fine and pure white glaze. During King Sejong's Reign in the early Choson dynasty, white wares were declared the Imperial wares and were reserved for court use. After that time, white wares on and off became the official wares of ancient Korea. This vase was probably produced by the official kilns or the provincial kilns for municipal use. It is in good con...

Meiji Bijutsu

A remarkable blue and white jar decorated with two dragons. The jar dates from the Korean Joseon period (Richo, in Japanese; 1392-1897), probably 18th century.

The jar shows traces of old repairs made during the Japanese Edo period (1615-1868). They were made by literally stapling the broken or cracked pieces together.
In spite of these regrettable yet captivating flaws, the jar has kept its vibrant and noble aura.

Kindly inquire if you have some questions.

A fantastic Clarissa Peters (Mrs. Mose B. Russell) mourning painting of a baby and toddler. Peters chose a simple palette of white and bluish-gray to emphasize the ethereal and ephemeral nature of the painting, reserving the use of colors to the hair, lips, and eyes of the subjects. Known for painting children, Peters' mourning paintings are scarce, and double mourning portraits are exponentially rarer yet.

Adding to the importance of this piece is the velvet lined gutta percha case, which h...

Fine Chinese Tang Dynasty Glazed Pottery Figure

This pottery figure was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). It is "heavily-potted" and made from a relatively highly-fired creamy-white pottery. The visible joins at each side show it was made in a two-piece mould. Glazed Tang figures are so much rarer and more desirable than painted figures; the body of this figure is coated in very finely-crackled dark yellow glaze. The head remains unglazed and there are traces of the original "cold...
