The smoothly undulating rim floats above the faceted sides, like acloud over the precipitous crags of Gifu prefecture, home of Oribe-ware. Spectacular colors affects on this playful form by Yamaguchi Makoto enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Oribe Kaki. The vase looks as if it were sculpted with the fire, perhaps poured molten out of the flames and solidified naturally into this form.
