Large and impressive Iga chawan by rising Iga-yaki star, Atarashi Manabu.The surface of this chawan is covered in a sheet of glass and there is wonderful bidoro drips and clam shell impressions where the chawan was fired on its side. The kodai, foot is wonderfully sculpted and fits well into the hand when in use.

Atarashi Manabu is one of the new generation of Iga and Shigaraki potters who is reinvigorating these ancient traditions...

This large and highly animated E-Shino mizusashi was made by internationally known and exhibited potter, Suzuki Goro. Made in Suzuki's classic "free wheeling" style, the careful use of iron under the glaze and the glaze itself has painted a Momoyama ink painting style image in a rather monumental way. Thrown quickly and thickly, the pot has areas of smooth and rough which balance the form rather well and the pot is finished with strong lugs and a large and functional knob on the lid...

Large and impressive take-no-zu style bamboo vase by Mino veteran and Oribe specialist; Sato Kazuji. Exceptional throwing, modeling and spatula work define this dynamic vase and what the photos fail to capture is the beautiful surface iridescence about the rich green Oribe glaze.

This vase measures 11.5" x 5" and is in perfect condition with the original signed box.

Glazed in a uroi (wet looking) Muji-Shino glaze over some rapid iron brushwork, this chawan is exceptionally well modeled and has a wide variety of color tones running from pure snow white to yellowish and coral highlights...

Large, hand carved Oribe vase form by Kato Shinya (Sakusuke V). This large vessel was thrown round and later altered to the current form where the surface was meticulously hand carved in this bold repeat pattern around the form and then glazed over in a rich deep green Oribe glaze...

A group of five volumes of the Japanese ceramic magazine, Honoho Geijutsu; #35/37/40/41/77. Each volume profusely illustrated, mostly in color with 178 pages and English captions to many of the photos. Each issue has several in depth articles as well as profiles of a wide variety of potters and a section on pottery techniques in the back of each volume...

Exhibited (in a gallery show) this Ko-Iga chawan was made by veteran potter, Kojima Kenji. This bowl is broad and deftly manipulated to create a rather nice form with the addition of a stamped device toward the bottom of the reverse of the piece. The face of the chawan has a nice build up of ash creating a blue-grey surface that then runs to ash tendrils embracing the sides and terminating at the rear in a variety of large drips...
