An extremely well fired Iga chawan by Shigaraki and Iga potter; Furutani Kazuya. This medieval styled chawan has a pleasant cylindrical form with areas of running ash, dusted ash and hi-iro along with clamshell impressions from where the bowl rested while being fired. The interior is coated in a rich olive toned ash and a thick pool of ash which built up due to the angle at which the chawan was placed in the kiln...

Saffron glazed water jar, covered jar, mizusashi with combed, kushime decoration in slip under the glaze which has run to create long partridge feather tendrils around the base of the pot. There are three gold lacquer dot additions around the form.

Richly glazed complex form covered box that was pressed in to a hand mold and later finished off in temmoku and tessha accents. Obviously a well conceived form, this box was made by the son of legendary Mashiko potter, Sakuma Totaro, Sakuma Kenji.. The form, finish, lid and foot can easily lead to the Mashiko style and Sakuma in particular. All in all a very well conceived piece by the son of a pottery legend.

The box and lead measures approximately 3.76" tall, 5" long and 4.25" wide...

Large Oribe influenced vase with trumpet style flared neck and mouth and incised around the shoulder of the body of the piece. The neck is flanked by two coiled style ring knobs.

As if cut from a solid block of clay, this bowl appears to be constructed of intersecting planes, though the chawan was first thrown, altered and cut, mentori style. This modern chawan is by master innovator and Bizen potter, Kakurezaki Ryuichi. Apprenticed to Isezaki Jun, he learned the traditional methods of Bizen pottery and firing and has added so much more to his style and vision of clay...

Serene Hagi chawan by veteran Yamaguchi Prefecture potter, Okada Yu (b.1941). Thrown of a rich daido clay and covered with first a slip and than an ash glaze, this chawan was fired in a wood fired climbing kiln the way that Hagi has been fired for centuries...

This chawan represents a modern retelling of Tamba (Tanba) pottery and is by one of the new generation potters; Imanishi Masahiko (b. 1971). This glazed chawan was pulled out of a red hot kiln, hikidashi style and the frozen surface is a wide variety of colors and tones including bidoro green, blue, black and shimmering silver-grey on the foot. The wet surface has a real depth to it making for a rather unique and rarely seen style...

Large abstract mentori, faceted Oribe chawan by contemporary pottery phenom; Ishii Takahiro. This very contemporary style chawan is glazed in Ishii’s vivid Oribe glaze that shimmers with iridescence and allows plenty of the tsuchi-aji to peak through as he glazed the pot. Some areas of the bare clay show hi-iro caused from the fuming shells the pot was fired on. Balanced on a well addressed circular kodai, this chawan is equally at home displayed or in the hand...

Large Momoyama influenced tataki paddled Oribe vase with large lugs applied on the neck. The pot was fired on wads, which were ground off and the areas are smooth to the touch. This piece has a great deal of volume and is much larger than the dimensions imply.
