Women often represent an aesthetic ideal in Chinese art. In particular, early 18th century Chinese portrayals of women feature willowy, svelte beauties–at once wistfully graceful and at once sensuous. These images (such as the central scene painted in this dish) typically en-cloister women in the “private” domestic sphere of gardens and household interiors.

Please note that this particular dish is extremely delicately made with its thin body, white luminous glaze, and molded lobed shape. It features a well-written Chenghua six-character mark.

We are offering a pair of these Kangxi "beauty" dishes, but this listing is for one dish only.
