Late 16th century
Wanli Period, Ming Dynasty
Porcelain with underglaze cobalt blue
Diameter: 19.8 cm / 7.8 in
From a Soqual, CA estate
A late Ming wanli period blue and white plate, freely painted with a rather abstract landscape scene in the typical late Ming 'outline and wash' method. The charming border is comprised of floral sprigs interspersed with a squirrel, frog, and two birds. The glaze is exceptionally bright and glassy.
Condition: Excellent antique condition. Minor 'moth-eaten' effect to rim edges, which is caused by glaze fritting and tiny fleabite chips. [Please examine all photos carefully, as they are part of the condition report.]
