An arresting colored and beautifully quilted cotton and some sort crape or crepe Amish quilt typical of Lancaster County Pennsylvania with the initials “DE” and the date 1916 embroidered in one corner of the red cotton back. In the central diamond the seven point star quilted star is surrounded by a feather wreath and a star in each of the four corners. The other parts of the center are quilted with small squares, flowers and chains enclosing flowers...

A large gold lustre and blue on a cream ground Spanish first half of the 16th century charger, probably Valencia, Manises. Molded with a dome in the center and leaves around the rim with a hole for hanging pierced in the rim before firing. 16 ¾ inches (42.5 cm) diameter.

Condition: Broken and restuck with some fairly crude filling of a couple of lost bits. One serious rim chip and numerous glaze and minor chips on the edge. Some wear to the gold lustre...

A very well decorated two handled urn or vase with everted rim with a black background showing figures in classical garb around the main portion of the body and with elaborate continuous ornamentation, mostly in orange on the outer edges and handles. No makers mark or mark for the country of origin, but likely to be English (possibly by Samuel Alcock & Company). It might be French. In either case based on the style it was made around 1850...

A pair of elaborate porcelain vases with large leaves in turquoise and gilt opening from a narrow base which rests on four wide feet. The base and feet encrusted with vegetation and occasional flowers which also support a large rising stem on either side with roses on one side and blue, orange garden flowers and possibly small lilies on the other side. Hard to imagine putting flowers that wouldn’t clash into these vases...

A low covered pot with jug ear handles of tin glazed earthenware with underglaze blue decoration on either side and on the top depicting a house near water. These pots were used for soft cheese, sort of like cottage cheese if I understand correctly. The top is loose fitting but the raised lip of the pot fits into a channel in the top. 4 ¼ inches tall by 8 inches across handles. (10 x 20 cm).

Condition: Minor wear to the bottom...

A pair of very detailed molded porcelain figures of standing pigeons. The glaze is slightly blue/green. On close examination it is clear that though they were made from the same mold, the details of the lines in the feathers, breasts and the bases were done by hand. A slight tint of orange shows through thin spots in the glaze on the bases. They are an identical pair rather than an opposing pair. Height 6 7/8 Inches (17.5 cm), length 6 5/8 inches (17 cm), width 3 inches (7.5 cm)...

A nicely decorated and shaped platter with 12 sides (the form known in France as a douze pans). This type of platter with a bust and scrolling decoration is typical of Moustiers, though the attribution to the Clerissy factory as stated on the stuck-on label on the back is less certain. The dimensions are 13 5/8 inches (35 cm) long, 10 inches (25 cm) wide and 1 ¼ inches 2.5 cm) tall.

A well painted and modeled figure of a kneeling man wearing a black cap and brown coat holding a board with a white cloth covered with fruit. On the underside of the base are the poorly impressed the marks of the Gardner factory in Moscow. A similar figure is pictured in the book Russian Porcelains by Marvin C. Ross. The book illustrates the collection of Russian porcelain at Hillwood Museum in Washington D.C...

An English creamware mug probably either Yorkshire or Staffordshire elaborately decorated with a brown body on which is painted in green black and yellow a very stylized house with fences and trees all within a yellow band at the foot and the lip. The squared off handle is also yellow. The shape of the handle leads to the fairly late date. 4 ¾ inches (12 cm) tall and 5 5/8 inches across the handle (14.2 cm).

Condition: no cracks, hairlines or repairs. Some roughness around the lip and one...

A very nicely molded Leeds creamware plate with underglaze blue decoration of an oriental man standing beside a low fence holding a parasol in one hand and pointing with his other while the birds fly in the sky beyond. Impressed mark that reads, “EDS*POTTERY.” 9 ¼ inches diameter (23.5 cm).

Condition: no chips cracks hairlines or repairs. The glaze is crackled and feels slightly rough on the back.

A larger than usual maiolica dry jug jar painted on the front with the scene of Saint Martin dividing his cloak with a beggar. On the back is the cypher for the Carthusian order and the date 1700. Unfortunately it is highly unlikely that this is the date of manufacture for the jar, which is almost certainly from the late 19th century and is loosely based on the series of jars that were made from 1697 into the early 18th century. A pair of candlesticks with a dark blue ground decorated with gilt insects and raised beaded rings. Though unmarked this is a color and decoration that was made by Masons from about 1815 to 1825. 8 inches tall and 5 inches diameter at the base. (20 cm tall and 13 cm diameter at base).

Condition: No chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs. Gilding wear around edges and some scratches around the base, probably from scraping off wax.

These are very elegant and no doubt the insects were painted ...

A Japanese tankard with lid made for the Western market, or at least in the Western taste, with an Imari palette. Traces of the gilding are still visible. The blue is underglaze, the other colors overglaze enamels. 8 inches (20.5 cm) tall with cover and approx. 5 ¾ inches (14.5 cm) across handle.

Condiion: fair bit of wear including gilding mostly gone, a hairline from the lip part way down the neck, glaze flakes on the handle and two small chips on the cover.

A porcelain two handled small tureen with cover and stand (this could possibly be a very large ecuelle) in a classical urn form with the handles having hooded classical female faces. The form is similar to one sold as Nove at Sotheby’s Zurich November 25, 1992 lot 126, illustrated. A Rococo style bronze stand for either fire tools or umbrellas. May have been gilt at one time. 28 ½ inches tall and 10 inches across. French 19th century.

Condition: If gilt most of it is gone. Red showing in some of the bronze. Replaced screw holding the base and standard together. Good structural condition without repairs.

4 Clingnancourt hard paste porcelain dinner plates with shaped edge, an elaborate gilt rim, a continuous band of hand painted roses and leaves and in the well of the plate rose sprigs. All with the Clignancourt stencil mark in red on the underside. 9 ¾ inches (25 cm) diameter.

Condition: no chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs. Minor wear

A large ormolu mounted turquoise glass covered bowl with an ormolu (gilding gone) and an attached ormolu base (gilding in good condition). The flattened bowl decorated with gilt lines and white enamel jewels. The top with a gilt band around the outside, a ring of gilt leaves and berries, then two black transfer classical female figures on opposing sides separated by gilt and white enamel jeweled quatrefoils . 9 inches (23 cm) diameter. 5 7/8 inches (15 cm) tall.

Condition: the knop broke out...
