An opportunity to acquire TWO items autographed later in life by the grand dame of Hollywood, Katharine Houghton Hepburn (May 12, 1907 – June 29, 2003). Hepburn was a leading lady in Hollywood for more than 60 years, and received a record four Academy Awards for Best Actress. In 1999, Hepburn was named by the American Film Institute as the greatest female star of classic Hollywood cinema. The first item is a clean felt pen signature on her red letterhead card, with "Jan 9 -81" written at upper right, possibly in another hand; the accompanying envelope to a Frank A Cavanero of Hawthorne, California is postmarked Los Angeles, 7 February, 1981. This would have been around the time that "On Golden Pond" with Henry Fonda and Jane Fonda, became a major box office hit. The envelope and card are grouped loosely behind glass with a printed montage of images of Hepburn and Spencer Tracy. Framed, the piece measures 17" by 13". The second item is a small poster showing a young thespian Hepburn performing in Shakespeare's "As You Like It", the poster published in 1992 by Triton Gallery of New York City in conjunction with The Theatre Guild. In the center of the imagery, in black ball point pen, Hepburn wrote "For Jim/ (difficult to decipher----possibly "a thespian" is in there) Kate". This "Kate" signature is very infrequently encountered. This piece measures 24 1/2" by 14 1/2".
