This is a Shaker hand sewn needle case make by the Shaker sisters and sold in their gift shops. It is a brown and beige silk fabric with a white flannel interior to hold the pins and needles. It is 4" by 4". and is in nice condition with wear to a bit of the ribbon.

Dated September 4th 1832, this lovely needlepoint saying titled "On Virtue" is surrounded with intricately embroidered flowers. In a bird's eye maple frame it measures 19.75" x 16.5", sight size 15" x 11.5". In very good antique condition, the background has darkened some with age (the first 2 photos showing the frame is most color correct.) Please note that the textile is not lighter on the bottom, it is a reflection as well as other light colored reflections coming from the glass.

A very well designed and executed eight point Star of Bethlehem pieced cotton quilt with excellent quilting. The pieces around the edges are white with very small pale blue printed sprigs. The pieces for the star are all solid colors. The backing is printed green cotton in a small pattern. Quilted with feather wreaths in the corners and partial ones between the points of the stars. All of the sewing is done by hand. 72 inches square...

Circa 1830 from Pennsylvania, this pieced cotton quilt features the North Star pattern. All hand stitched, it has strong geometric shapes. Colors are red, white and various purples. Rare 18th century New England sampler from Hillsborough, New Hampshire. Circa 1784. Size: 10.5 inches x 8.25 inches. An early needlework sampler made by Rhoda Symonds at age 16. Rhoda Symonds was born in Essex, Massachusetts in 1768 and moved with her family to Hillsborough, New Hampshire in either 1772 or 1773. The sampler indicates that she was aged 16 when she created it, suggesting a date in 1784...

This pin cushion makes quite a statement. It has wonderful calico print fabrics in soft red, blue and brown. It is 7" square and is 3 1/2" thick and very heavy. You can see that it did have pins stuck in it at one time. It was made to be used. This is the best pin cushion! C. 1880 with some of the fabrics earlier.

This tiny handsewn patch work quilt has just on square that has a little hole. One of the long sides the edge has a bit out of it, maybe it caught on something. The sewing is somewhat unskilled and appears to have been a labor of love rather than perfection. It has a lot of charm and nice enough to be uses on a doll bed or hung on a wall. These are two linen homespun pillow cases that are beautifully made. They are embroidered with the name Emily Clark with a heart and the number 4. They are is excellent condition with just a little age related yellowing. The stitches are so tiny you can’t see them at the hemmed end. They are 15 ½” by 38”. Circa 1820-30

A nicely made large quilt in the triple Irish chain pattern from the late 19th century. The chains made of small squares of yellow, red and green pattern printed cotton. An 18th c French yellow silk underdress front, beautifully and heavily embroidered with metallic threads. The overall size is 27 1/2" by 19". The condition is good, with some scattered wear and pulls. It could highly benefit from a careful pressing.

A spectacular and beautiful circa 1730 English silk embroidered apron front, exquisitely embroidered in polychrome silk and metallic threads with garlands and sprays of flowers urns. Scalloped edges are finished with embroidered metallic trim. A somewhat later but very similar example is shown in The Lotus Collection.

There are some scattered unimportant splits and very very minor and small spots of discoloration, all to be expected in such a delicate piece. The textile size is 41 3/8" by 17 ...

Very nice poplar Shaker bonnet with a label marking the size as a 5. They were also made in size #6 and size #7. The bonnets were sold by the Shakers in their gift shops but they were not made by the Shakers. This one is in very good condition. It does have a few brown stains at the top of the brim edge, see photo. This is just about as good as you can get for this type of Shaker bonnet.

These lovely linen travel rolls were made and sold in Maine and NH by the Shakers. They are made with natural linen and have red trim. During the winters the sisters embroidered them . I have owned a few of them and they are all different but great. This is a travel roll-up and so pretty to look at. It is 22" by 12". It does have a hole on the front, see pictures. Circal 1890

A large silk satin fan, with sixteen gilt decorated wood "sticks", hand-painted depicting four birds amongst flowering prunus or cherry branches. This item is made with Chinese silk but was probably made in France and was retailed in Liverpool - unusually complete with its original box which carries a dispatch date of 9th November 1898. This item is in very good unused condition. 34cm (13.3inches) long; 62cm (24.3inches) wide when extended.

A beautiful French embroidered brocaded and woven textile piece, composed of 4 segments sewn together, edged with an attached border of metallic threaded textile, and backed with yellow silk.

Overall condition is excellent, with vibrant colors and no holes or repairs. The overall size is 43 1/2" by 36".

Twelve eight pointed stars made of cotton printed in orange with small yellow clover-like shapes arranged in rows of twos and threes with alternating white squares all enclosed in three bands of the same printed fabric. The outside band is turned over the edge to join the white cotton backing. Cotton seeds visible in the stuffing. All hand stitched. Very good quilting with running feathers and cross stitching over much of the surface. There is an embroidered, “E” on the back in one corner. 7...

This is the upper part of a kamishimo; samurai's formal attire without the trousers. It was worn over a kosode (kimono with small sleeves) with trousers. The texture is hemp like; coarse, slightly translucent, thick threads (thicker than other kamishimo). The family crest is the feathers of a hawk. A very nice pair of antique hand knit blue and white cotton socks with a initials at the top. I think the initials are WWF. The stockings are knit with three different weight cotton yarn the heaviest is the wonderful true blue that is the foot and ankle where all the wear is and the area where you want the most cushioning. A large cotton pieced log cabin quilt that is slightly asymmetrical with nine rows to the height as in the picture and eight rows of squares wide all surrounded by a red border. The radiating dark and light bands (barn raising) from the center are not actually centered in the quilt, but start in the lower center as per the pictures. Fabulous homespun black wool blanket with the best bittersweet color stripes at both ends. It is very soft and in very good condition but not mint. It has a later hand sewn edge on one end that is coming loose in a couple of places and there are a few small thin areas. It is 68" by 60" and it makes quite a statement. It is not as early as the center seam blankets but it makes up for it in looks.

A beautiful and very early 18th century bizarre silk fragment, from a chausable of the period. Vegetal and flower motifs in polychrome silk, silver and gold thread on a salmon ground, the entire piece mounted on cotton. Excellent overall condition, with some expected oxidation of the metallic threads. The panel itself is 28" in length, and 9 3/4" at its widest. The mounted size is 30 1/4" by 11 1/4".

A beautiful example of Victorian bead work, this was originally a purse. Now without a frame, this double sided stylized oval shaped Czechoslovakia glass cut bead design is composed of richly colored purple plum, lavender, gold, bronze, brown and charcoal black floral bouquets on tree limbs made up of horizontal and vertical rows of bead work, original brown silk lining, beaded fringe. This is a well washed and loved red calico doll quilt. It is mostly treadle machine stitched with some hand sewing. The backing is a brown and cream calico print with a brown calico boarder on both front and back. It is very soft, faded a couple of tiny holes that gives it that great old worn look. This is my kind of quilt, old and worn and I realize it is not for everyone. It is 16" square and is from the 1890's with a Pennsylvania verbal history. (I love it.)

Antique (19th Century) Central or Western Anatolian prayer or altar kilim, in beautiful condition. 3'4" by 7'2". All natural dyes, complete sides and ends. Two well done old repairs lower left. From a design standpoint this kilim is arranged like an Obruk kilim (the pointed hooked mirhab topped with a tree of life design, and flanked in the spandrels by two more such designs). However the color palette and the feel are not typically Obruk. From a Charlotte, NC estate.

Early antique homespun cotton handkerchief in blue and white. It is very tightly woven and soft to the touch. It has two initials M and H. This is an American and possibly Shaker made. It is 17 1/2" by 19 1/2". The condition is excellent with some slight age discoloration. This was made for longevity! Circa 1830-40.

A three-color overshot coverlet with a pattern of snowballs and stripes on the dark ground side. The border on three sides is wavy lines and the fringe is a continuation of the white warp threads on the bottom and the red and blue weft threads on the sides. The warp is cotton and the weft is wool. The seam down the middle indicates that it was done on a narrow loom, though the sophisticated design and the three colors suggest that it was woven by a professional. This work towel is made for use but is also very beautiful. I think it is linen one way and cotton the other way. (warp and weft). It has a feel and sheen of linen but also has the flat look of cotton. It is in very good condition, has the original loop for hanging it up, and is hemmed on both sides of the towel. This are small red boiled wool mittens, hand sewn and 3" long. They are from the 1890-1910. In very good condition and amazing they are still together.

Antique Kurdish bagface, or bag front, Northwest Persia, late nineteenth--early 20th Century, 14" by 19". Single Memling gul in blue-green, brown-black, dark ivory, several shades of red, apricot, midnight blue, etc. Multicolored diagonal stripe border. Original selvedge, good condition. All dyes appear natural, including the beautiful apricot often found in this type of bag.
