An exeptional rosewood tea caddy with heavy cast brass handles and brass cast feet in casket form with shaped lid and lock. The edges are possibly yew wood. The interior is fitted with removable hinge lidded compartments with a round center for mixing bowl which is not included. From our European Collection, a very fine and elegant Victorian era marquetry inlaid credenza, late 19th century circa 1865-1890. This beautiful piece is dark walnut inlaid in stylized foliate strapwork design, using a softer and lighter colored wood for the inlay material that is most likely either tulipwood or fruitwood. The piece is adorned with wonderful gilt bronze castings on the columns and base area that are essentially artwork unto themselves...
Beautiful little antique French hinged box with blue enameling and gold gilt over bronze. Featuring a miniature portrait that is surrounded by ornate reticulation which in turn is accented with glass faux rubies and faux lapis lazuli. The blue enamel ground in the portrait matches the darker blue surround trim. Velvet lined, this makes a perfect little box to protect that special piece of jewelry. Measures 3 3/8" across, 2 3/4" deep, and 1 inch high.
Dates circa 1880.
Aside from its elegant proportions and casting, this cast iron planter is exceptional because it retains a large portion of its original salmon and white paint. No breaks or restoration.
