Bizen ware hexogonal vase with engravings of orchids on the side of the vase. The patina and color of the vase is very similar to those seen from the late Edo and early Meiji period. Interestingly, during this period elaborate decorations and moulding were created which was popular during this time. However, the vase does not contain the elaborate decorations and resembles more of tokoname wares emulating the Chinese yixing potteries. Age: Late Edo or early Meiji Period...

This is an old and well done Japanese Satsuma box. The design has a wonderful contrast between the simplistic over glazed enamel water elements and the refined, highly detailed gold wheels. The inside is covered with a layer of gold. The box is not signed but we think it could have possibly come from the Makuzu Kozan studio because of its quality and uniqueness. Makuzu Kozan did some work in earthenware and came up with many wonderful designs. We also know that they were not all signed...

This is a great little Japanese satsuma vase. It is highly detailed and the 40 or so children are all very expressive. Amazingly the vase stands only 3 inches tall. This is truly a wonderful micro-detailed piece and I believe it was made with the beautiful and tough mercury fired gold. You will need glasses to appreciate all the fine detail. It is partially signed on the bottom and minutely signed in a banner held by one of the children...

This unique Satsuma vase is hand potted and shaped to resemble a cloth bag with a tied sash drawing in the neck. The piece is unsigned, but is definitely by a master artist. There a two main panels of figures, one of a group of Lohan gathered around a dragon and the other showing young children studying scrolls. Sparsely painted with airy flower sprigs, leaving large parts of the cream-coloured crackle-glazed surface undecorated. The mouth rim with the mon (emblem) of the Itagaki (?) family.
