This yatate, or traveler's pen case, is made of wrought brass, and has a long tube to hold the brush and a deep pot for the ink, which would have been saturated in a cotton wad. The lid snaps snugly over the pot to contain the ink, and a tab connected to the lid covers the end of the tube that contains the brush. A logo is inscribed on the tab in the form of a hiragana ya beneath a roof-shaped mark...

A simple bronze with mixed metal applied to the surface utilizing the method known as zogan where gold and silver is used to apply the decoration and is fired on the surface. The motif is a plum branch with a bird known as an onagadori which is similar to a rooster, but is a distinct bird found in Japan. Piece is signed by Mitsufune. The subtle pair of Japanese bronze vases with the detailed work done of motifs of lotuses, herons, and carp fascinate the eyes. Antique Japanese bronze figure of Quanyin from the Meiji period, late 19th century. The figure is holding a scroll and wearing draped robes decorated with necklaces and flowers. Quanyin is the buddhist goddess of compassion. It measures 12" tall, 4" wide at base.

Antique Japanese Bronze Warrior with upraised arm holding a Buddhist Bell Bowl and holding spear in other arm. Gold leaf on raised design. Very fine detail, good condition with small wear to gilt. A detailed antique Japanese usubata flower vase. The vase contains a raised figure of phoenix flying and the entire vase contains carvings of paulownia flowers. Antique Japanese pair of gilt copper candle holders (shokudai) engraved with Kodaiji style pattern on the base and the bottom of the holder. The Kodaiji pattern contains repeating pattern of chrysanthemums and paulownia flowers. The pattern originates from the noted temple on the eastern hills of Kyoto which the name is derived from. This very nicely cast metal young soldier standing on a white marble base is a late 19th or early 20th century product. It is 18 ¾” high, 8” wide and 5” thick (measure from the base). It depicts the young soldier holding an animal horn in his right hand and is wearing a pack on his back. It is in very good condition.

Outstanding and rare Meiji Period C. 1880 buddhist temple water bowl. Fabulous bronze work with mythical dragon handles and elephant tripod feet legs. Bronze covered hibachi by Soho Sunosuke. Bronze lid with image of Chinese lions and peonies surrounded with a karakusa or scroll vine pattern openwork border on the side. The body of the hibachi contain metalwork still lives of herons, mandarin ducks, quails, and pheasants. Bottom of the hibachi contains the signature of Soho Sunosuke. Signature reading: Soho. Antique Japanese single iron stirrup with scrolling vine or karakusa with chrysanthemum and plum pattern gilt damascene inlay on iron and mother of pearl or aogai decoration in the interior. Age: Mid-Edo period 18th century. Size: Length: 10" Width:5.2" Height: 10.5".

This cast metal figure of a farm girl is an early 20th century (late Meiji) product. It depicts a bare footed farm girl carrying a large basket on her shoulder. It is 11 ¼” high and 4 1/8” in diameter at the base. The tip of the small stick she holds in her left hand is broken off. Aside from this, it is in very good condition.

Tall Japanese sectional patinated bronze tripod censer, or incense burner, on a pedestal base decorated on the vertically ribbed body with a relief motif of birds perched on blossoming, leafy branches. The lid has a Buddhist lion-dog (shishi) finial and there is an elaborate animal mask form handle on each side. The base holds a square apochryphal Chinese Ming dynasty Xuande reign mark. A gorgeous Japanese brazier with excellent high quality enamel work, this treasure is contrasted in color from the dark silvered with areas of gold lid and the bronzed tone copper base, making it a visual treat. Dated to the late 19th century this can still used for fragrant dried flowers on a desk top or table. It measures 6.5" diameter x 5.5" high.

An iron kettle was in decent look.
In compressed form, the kettle was with limited decoration except on the surface of the cover. That made it in a simple and then casual mood.
Well preserved without any defects or restorations, the ewer was easy for use of pouring hot water for making tea.
Of course from the size, the quantity of water was ideally for two people over a chatting time.

Japanese Edo period round-form bronze kagami (mirror) decorated in high relief with a finely detailed motif of crane and its young among pines. The perforated boss in the center, which holds a tassel, is in the form of a minogame (tortoise). There is an inscription at one side (see enlargement 6). We are unsure of the precise dating, but confirm it dates no later than Edo period (pre-1868). 4 3/4" diameter with a 3/4" high rim. Very good overall condition with typical wear for its age...

Elegant bronze sake pourers with superb metal craftmanship and mythical dragons in raised relief. The edge of the pourers and the lid has detailed diaper patterns also in raised relief. Japanese Meiji Period bronze USUBATA vase. The vase sits on a tripod base and has the design in silver inlays of a small rocky island with pine trees under the moonlight and with the ocean with waves around it. Stamped KAMETANI on the bottom. The vase measures 11 1/2" tall, 12 3/4" diameter at top and 7 1/2" diameter at base.

Pair of Japanese shokudai candlesticks made of copper with chrysanthemum shaped base. Original finish consistent of its age.
