Lacquer kobako box with two compartments in the shape of a fan. Decorated with pine trees near a stream on all sides in takamaki-e, hiramaki-e techniques with a nashi-ji background. On the upper side, a couple of cranes are looking for food on the ground, while three baby cranes are waiting in the nest located in the pine tree. Interior in nashi-ji lacquer.

A Group of Japanese Meiji Period Gold Lacquered Wood Lotus Blossoms. They were displayed on the altar of a Buddhist temple and represent rebirth and the cycle of life. Each flower is depicted in a different state of maturity. Late 19th Century. Height of the tallest flower: 30 inches (76cm).

Sake cup in wood lacquered with gold, silver and cinnabar powder. On the outside on a rich thick kinji background, decorated with flowers in gold and silver leafs around the perimeter and in the center 2 stylized Chinese characters in thick lumpy cinnabar lacquer with the most beautiful aesthetic effect, probably the mark of the artist. The exterior is decorated with maple leaves in gold, red, green and brown lacquer on a black background. Note that polychrome lacquers are very rare...

Scene of geese on a flowering stream bank. Though unsigned, the design is very well executed in mostly earth-toned enamels. There are some faint stress lines of discoloration in one area under the enamel, otherwise the condition is very good.

Kobako in gold lacquer fundame in the shape of two joined shells, the interior and the bottom in nashi-ji lacquer. One of the two shells has a hiramaki-e decoration of gold lacquer and mura nashi-ji on a black background. It represents a landscape lit by the diffuse light of the moon, crossed by a river and animated by mountains and a valley dotted with trees and thatched cottages...

This superb Japanese Meiji Period (1868~1912) oblong cloisonné plate is 8 1/8” long, 6 7/8“ wide and ½” thick. It depicts two flying cranes, peonies and chrysanthemums on a burgundy background. It is in excellent condition.

Pair of silver vase cloisonné of enamels. Gold lacquer cartouches inlaid with mother-of-pearl shibayama, buffalo horn, stained bone. Signature of the artist in a gold cartouche. Japanese work from the end of the 19th century. Good condition. No restoration, some missing inlays (see pictures) the silver parts are in good condition, not dented or scratched...

Antique Japanese gilt lacquer three-case inro, in the shape of a large sake jar decorated with two karako (children) surprised by their companion tumbling in a cascade of sake to the opposite side, expertly rendered in gold and silver hiramakie, takamakie, togidashi and usu-nashiji on a kinji ground, the interior's fundame and nashiji (silver oxidized), signed Koryu-saku, Edo Period. together with a lacquered wood bead ojime fashioned as a brocade ball with minute inlay...

Suzuribako orned with a kakemono in glod and silver lacquer, cerned by plum blossoms in gold hira maki-e lacquer, green, silver and white, on a black lacquer background.
The inside of the lid is orned by a cloud sky in gold and silver lacque, on a hiramei-ji lacquer background (more or less dense gold flakes on a black background).
The inside of suzuribako presents a tray with a suteki (water bucket) with water melon decors, and a suzuri, (inkstone), the all laid on a hiramei-ji ...

Japanese hand drum used with Kabuki, Noh and Minyo. The hourglass shaped wood body with Makie gold on black lacquer decoration of Ho-o No Tori (phoenix). Capped on either end by stretched hide with black lacquer detailing on the outward facing stretched surfaces and rims and with gold lacquer on the inward facing surfaces - the two hide ends held taught over the cupped ends off the wooden body with orange cord. The lacquered wooden body is in good condition...

Chrysanthemums cascade gracefully down the mirror black ground of this 4.125" early Namikawa Yasuyuki cloisonne vase. Though unsigned, it is definitely the work of Namikawa.

Condition: Excellent, absolutely no repairs.

Japanese Kamakurabori Lacquered Box by Kasen, with a design of Peony and Shishi, Buddha's Guardian Protector. Gorgeous rich red lacquer intricately carved in high relief. A superb example that is rare for its size, quality, and superior technique. Meiji Period, circa 1890. 13 inches x (33cm) long x 11 inches (28cm) wide x 6 inches (15cm) deep. From a widely renowned and published collection that has been exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum and Japan Society.

This is a very fine Japanese cloisonne vase from the 1890's. The work is good enough to be Hayashi. The vase is rather large at 9 1/2 inches and loaded with fine detailing. It is not perfect and the price reflects this. At one time it was a lamp. The drill hole was nicely filled but there are several craze lines around the vase. The rims appear to be silver or nickle. This is a beautiful rare piece of cloisonne.

A rare stacking Bento (picnic) box in the shape of a tea leaf storage jar decorated in a realistic fashion with black, silver and gold maki-e lacquer. It consists of four pieces, stacked they are 28 cm (11 inches) tall, and all are in excellent condition.

Unsigned, this 9.5" vase was attributed to Gonda Hirosuke by its previous owner. The ground is of differing shades of blue, the neck being darker than the body. Sixteen colorful butterflies flutter about the neck above a bird perched among blossoming lotus. The design is nicely executed in both silver wire and wireless technique...
