From our Japanese Collection, a very fine assembled pair of Fukagawa imari porcelain chargers, Meiji Period (1868-1912). The blue Koransha mark on the reverse dates these more specifically to circa 1875-1880. One charger depicts figures set against a field of tall bamboo grass executed in mostly gilt and blue, along with very subtle use of green, orange and pink, while the second charger depicts just the bamboo grass...

Chinese bronze tea kettle, Its body decorated with raised dragons within beautifully shaped borders. Its spout has the form of a dragon's head with a ball in its mouth, with a nice green patina formed around the opening. Its handle has the form of a dragon's body, its tail and neck curled inwards, and the lid has a cute dragon with spindly legs within a triquetra shape, decorated with raised designs. A fine silver kiseru (kizeru) pipe with natural bamboo body, the ends finely engraved with a dragon and tiger in the bamboo grove. The color of the central bamboo section is dark (almost black) with purple tint. The eye (eyes) is inlaid with gold (very small though). Circa 1900. 7 1/4” (18.8cm)

Japanese 4-panel screen painting (byobu) of two white herons and a weeping willow tree. One bird stands on the edge of a lake while another flies overhead. A weeping willow tree bends it's branches over the water. Painted in sumi-e ink and mineral colors on silver leafed paper. Signed.

A fine so-called “Deshima”, or more likely a scene of Scheveningen in the Netherlands or an imaginary composition based upon it, after an unknown original by Frederik van Frytom. The bowl is decorated with four elements of the pattern, two figures in a field, a female figure with cow held upon a leash, a rider in a landscape, and a “light-house”, beacon upon a hill...

Used for ceremonial purposes by the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties. Traditionally, the jue vessel was made of bronze with a pouring spout on either end and a pair of capped posts rising from the rim. This piece, although in the shape of a jue, is done in fine, powdery-blue celadon and is described on the tomobako as being a jue-shaped incense burner (korou).

An unusual antique Japanese Choba Tansu (merchant chest) made of Kiri (Paulownia) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. All original hand forged iron hardware with Warabite handles and unusual double hinged door design. Interior holds 9 drawers of varying sizes and 2 shelves. Constructed using straight dovetail joinery and hardened wooden nails. Each side has swivel handles for long distance transport and pairs of carrying handles for placement in a room...

Antique Japanese large single section todana tansu. Made of hinoki (Japanese cypress) wood. This piece 4 horizontal rows with 4 drawers in each row for a total of 16 drawers. All of them are the same size. The hardware is made of iron and each drawer has a warabite shaped drawer pull.

The tonkotsu is 4.6 inches (11.5cm) tall by 3.8 inches (9.5cm) wide. The pipe holder is 1.1 inches (3cm) tall by 8.4 inches (22cm) in length.
