The anthropomorphized monkeys, dressed in clothing and with human hands, are suggestive of the Hindu deity, Hanuman. In keeping with the Hindu/Buddhist theme, makara heads emerge from the ends of the scrolling peony vines...

A Cambodian cast bronze statuette representing the Hindu god Vishnu standing with his 4 arms. The bronze has an excellent old patina which confirms the dating. Khmer art 12th century or before. A wooden plinth was made around 1900 to stabilize the statue. Height without wood base: 117mm (4.6 inches)

Heavily cast in the naïve style that is so typical for Laos. H. 29,5 cm. Good age wear and patina. Remains of gilding. Old repairs to the feet.
