He is portrayed in a Mandalay style, which emerged at the end of the 18th century, in which he sports a bun at the top of his head, has a fleshier face, and is shown seated in a lotus position performing the Bhumispharsa mudra where he touches the Earth as he reaches enlightenment through meditation. Red and gold painted flowers with long, deep green stems fray out from behind the dragon and reaches inwards from the sides of the chest, with small green birds perching on either side of the dragon...

DESCRIPTION: A large, handsome Burmese wood sculpture of a male Nat, or nature spirit, dressed in traditional attire and engaged in a joyful dance. Such images were first carved from wood, then laboriously decorated with applications of red lacquer then gold gilt. Dating from the early 20th C., it has been mounted on a rod with square base. Please see the last photo for size comparison with our other Nat, FIG56. Although not purchased as a pair, these make wonderful companion pieces...

Smooth and serene Marble Shakyamuni Buddha subduing Mara. Robe and base are brown with some fine details and gilding. The head of the Buddha is covered with a multitude of small pointed hairlocks called "Shwebo-thorns" on top of which is the stupa shaped flame. The Buddha is clad in a nice robe showing overlapping folds and decorated bands, which also cover the right shoulder and left arm. This is a unique piece of art showing unusual details, refined carving skill and craftsmanship...

Rare wide brimmed Tibetan hat, meant to be worn by reincarnated lamas of a high-rank, called Tulku, who have the power to choose their manner of rebirth. The inner part has pierced characters and a raised design, and is topped with a bronze and quartz finial with auspicious designs. Museum quality large Phayao, northern Thailand, Lan Na Kingdom period, brown and olive-glazed baluster storage jar, 1300-1500 AD. 17 1/4" tall, roughly 13" in diameter. This jar is decorated with four bands of stamped motifs, including twin fish (first band), elephants (second band), floral motifs and others. Some condition issues, but overall integrity of the jar has been preserved. Please inquire.

Genuine antique Shan lacquer box circa late 19thCE. Most Burmese lacquer being offered on the internet purported to be antique are vintage at best and new at worst. I acquired this in Yunnan, China along the Burmese border but of Shan (nationality in China).
