This metal box is fashioned as a model of a traditional stringed instrument having an overall punched floral design and a hinged lid. The base has an impressed seal. The surface has somewhat darkened with age. It is in overall good condition.

Circa 1850, hand painted blue and white Chinese porcelain stem dish with owner's mark. Very good antique condition. Some "flea bites" around the lip with a small chip on underside. Measures 2.25" high, 4" diameter.
Antique Chinese framed painting of the mythological figure Zhong Kui, commander of 80,000 demons, vanquisher of evil spirits, and guardian of households. He appears to be controlling an unhappy looking green demon with a turtle shell, sometimes called Shui Gui. Two small bats fly just next to the calligraphy on the lefthand side, with red chop by the artist.

19th century/Meiji period Japanese bone paper knife/page turner with low relief carving of a butterfly in flight above 2 branches of morning glory, one of the in bloom. Very nice quality carving, red ink highlights. Great patina, signed GYOKUSAI on the back, pleasant to hold, good desk object. Length 6 1/2 inches.

This is a pair of glass bowls with saucers that are of a deep, even amethyst tone with high translucency. The pieces are molded, then turned, having highly polished interiors. The two bowls have well-carved pronounced footrings. The backs of the saucers retain the mold shapes, but with a glossy polish.

Small, sturdy platter, called ishizara, used as kitchen ware. Gray stoneware decorated with underglaze iron black and cobalt blue tama (sacred jewels) and characters, covered by a creamy, yellowish translucent and finely crackled glaze. Five spurmarks. Mingei.

A SET of three hanging scroll painting depicted beautiful cherry blossoms in the mountain waterfall and crane in the cloud. Painted with ink and thick pigments on paper. Signed Kano Tan'en and sealed. It is attributed to Kano Tan'en.

Antique Korean bandaji (blanket storage) chest made with mirrored persimmon wood panels and hardware of brass and iron. The door of the chest is hinged and opens downward to reveal a large storage compartment. The inside of the compartment is outfitted with small drawers in the back and shelves on the sides in an unusual and clever configuration.

Inside of ring has embedded pipe scale from the glass working process and exterior layer of glass has stress crack with small chip missing...stress crack would also be from glass making process...
but ring has been stable for couple of centuries...ring was bought in South China late 90s along with several other rings (all stone and sold) but this one was so unusual that I kept it ...really is lovely

19th century Chinese bangle bracelet of classical shape made out of transparent citrine colored Peking glass. Excellent color, occasional bubbles inside the material typical for the period. Beautiful patina and slight wear to the surface, overall in excellent condition. Inner diameter 76 mm (2 15/16 inches), outer diameter 3 1/2 inches. Part of a small Massachusetts collection of Peking glass.
Unusual choba tansu made with keyaki (elm) wood with large persimmon wood beams running horizontal with through tennon joinery in the frame, identical top and bottom drawer with beautiful keyaki wood, sliding panels also of keyaki wood open to compartment with shelf, iron hardware, Edo/Meiji Period (early 1800's).

Tatougami which was used at the pawnshop for wrapping pawned items. The name of the shop is "koyama Shichi-ten" and it has the shop's logo "小" in the square. It is a few layers of old washi (handmade paper) pasted together and painted with kakishibu (persimmon tannin) for strength and waterproof. Shichiya (pawn shop) appeared in Kamakura period and developed much in Edo period. 19th century. 32cm x 81cm
