Rare and large deep bowl with an everted rim set on a fairly tall and slightly tapering foot. On the interior, the deep well descends to a shallow circular depression about 2 ½ in. in diameter. The entire bowl is covered with a clear glaze of bluish-grey cast except for a portion of the footring. A short, uneven portion in the rim is due to a potting flaw that was repaired by the potter before firing as was also a small gouge to the lower foot...

An Extremely Rare Korean Koryo White Porcelain Melon-Form Ewer/Cover, 13th C.: Korea, Koryo period, 12th -13th Century This ewer formed in melon shape with a clear blusih white glaze is an extremely rare, it has looped handle and arched spout, eight lobes rising from a flat foot with slightly recessed base. Choson period, 1800s

The top is decorated with a mountainous landscape with trees and stylized birds in flight. The sides have three calligraphic flourishes. A low footring encircles the glazed base. Sand and kiln grit covers the entire footring with small areas of sand adhering to the base. The pouring spout has been restored and there is a small, shallow chip on the top near the edge above the mountain.

Diameter: 3 ¼ in.; Height: 1 3/8 in.

The exterior of each bowl is decorated with nine butterflies in flight in brilliant funcai enamels. The lower portion of the bowls just above the footring is encircled by a band of lappet panels, and below the rim of each is a Greek key band all in the same enamel palette. A large Korean celadon glazed stoneware bowl with incised decoration of a pair of stylised birds, presumably Pheonixes or possibly Cranes. The bowl dates to the late 11th or the 12th century. The bowl measures 8 inches in diameter and stands 2.5 inches high at the rim. There is one extremely fine hairline crack to the rim that is scarcely visible to to the naked eye. There are no chips, frits cracks or restoration. Additional images on request.
