An incredible Veraguas gold figural pendant biting a double-headed snake, Costa Rica, Circa 500-1000 A.D., height 1 13/16 inches (4.6 cm); 14 karat pure gold; especially beautiful solid yellow gold, 4.81 dwt., original loop for suspension. Round in shape in the spirit of a kobako, this rare box in 2 parts in fundame lacquer represents a butsudan (small portable temple) inside which there are, very finely carved, a Buddha on the lotus and 2 apsaras. On the lids lotus leaves seem to fly.

"Sorihiki-happi"from Yusa in Yamagata prefecture which was worn for sleigh pulling. It has cloth with sashiko for reinforcement diagonally, from shoulder to one side of the body, and also both sides. It was worn when sorihiki pull down a sleigh with firewood from the mountain to the foot of the mountain. Yusa sashiko is one of Shonai sashiko in Yamagata prefecture. Wonderful birdhead-shaped stamp seal in a glossy green hardstone (rare!), Syro-Levantine part of Mesopotamia, probably 5th. mill. BC.

A pre-historic / Neolithic seal carved with a fine grit pattern in the base, the form of the seal itself as a stylized birds head.

A very attractive stamp seal of the Uruk period of Mesopotamia, carved in a scaraboid / gable form, 3rd. mill. BC.

Substantial seal carved and finely polished in a beautiful diorite hardstone, very popular and scarce in antiquitiy and used extensively by the Egyptians. A black hardstone with white inclusions. The seal in the gable of scaraboid shape and with the preffered carvings of globular patterns of the Uruk period stamp seals of Mesopotamia.

Condition: Choice for the type, very thin hairline in the body but intact and unrepaired with typical small spots of missing glaze. Spout is intact without chips. Beautiful patination!
