This is benibana-dye (Natural safflower dyeing)-shibori and katazome yosegire kimono textile of the Edo era(1800-1867). It has a few thin stains. It has a small damage in several places. However, it is in a state good The red shibori (Tie-dye)is very impressive and beautiful. The pattern on the hem is a traditional Japanese treasure and has a very auspicious design. A piece of Iyo-zome cloth which was futonji (bedding). It is made of hand-spun cotton and has katazome (stencil-resist-dye) pattern. The name Iyo-zome is originated from Iyo sudare (bamboo screen) since the pattern looks like wood grain by looking through two layers of them. Early Edo (1603-1868) Period Shino Chawan with all highlights of the Japanese aesthetics of wabi sabi. Such 17th century Shino tea bowls without cracks and repairs are very rare.

It is in perfect antique condition and comes with Gomotsu-bukuro (Shifuku) and a lacquered wooden box with corner protections.

Shino-ware dates to the Momoyama period when potters were attempting to recreate white porcelain-wares that were being imported from China at the time...

Omi-e-kasuri (pictorial kasuri) with double kasuri pine and bamboo motif. It is handwoven of taima (hemp) and weft yarn with pine tree pattern is clamp-board dye so that the textile has white bar-code like lines in both selvedges. Both choma (ramie) and taima (hemp) textiles were woven from 12th century in Omi region in Shiga prefecture, but kasuri textiles were woven of taima (hemp). Very rare Momoyama period (1568-1600) Ko Karatsu sake cup formerly in the collection of Fujio Koyama (1900-1975).

Shallow body with uneven rim typical for Momoyama period. There are skillfully made gold kintsugi repairs over the edge.

The old wooden custom-made Magewappa box has a label which says that the cup was in the collection of Fujio Koyama and dated as Momoyama period.

Koyama Fujio was a scholar of Japanese pottery and a potter as well...

An antique Japanese tansu chest called Bodansu (chest with locking bar) made entirely of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. It originates from the southern island of Kyushu.
